I am looking into growing an indoor rabbit garden. I want to grow kale, dandelions, cilantro, strawberries, and grass. I need to buy soil to put in the growing trays, but all the soils that I can find have fertilizer in them. Would the fertilizer in the soil affect the rabbits?

Your bunnies won’t eat the soil, but they will dig in it and dig up your garden. I am growing indoor veggies this winter so I can continue feeding them home grown salads. But I think they would tear up your indoor garden. The soil won’t affect the health aspects of the plants.

Basil, cilantro, mint, different lettuces, tarragon, turnip, mustard, kale, and grass. The grass seems to take the longest to sprout… I’m also growing millet and other bird seed varieties for my birdies.

If I made an indoor garden, I would get there leaves, fruit, etc. from the plant and give it to them. I won’t let them in the plants.

When I had Guin and Merlin in the outdoor bird aviary, I had a veggie garden for them. They dug it up… Now I just give them the leaves.

Is it just fertilizer (i.e. nutrients)? If so, the soil itself will not taint the veggies. Plants will take up the nutrients and incorporate them into their tissues (just as they would if they were growing “naturally” since nutrients are present in healthy soils).

No fertilizer-no plants! It’s plant food

You want to avoid any sprays-insecticides, pesticides, etc-but fertilizer/plant food is good to go!
