So Rookie is a totally free roam bunny even when I’m not home or sleeping. He has a cage but the door has never ever been closed…really only have it cause it holds his water bottle…we do use it to give him his food there so it’s contained…this isn’t very new but it is happening more and more…that rookie is chewing on the cage…even though the door is open…he has plenty of things to chew on so not sure what his thing is…but my worry is that his teeth will get too grinder down from it…any ideas? It’s not bothering me per se other than it makes my teeth hurt when he does it so I’m worried about his…

Perhaps try and change his toys around so it doesn’t get boring for him ? So have fewer out at once, but change them round once or twice a day to keep him interest. In my experience though very intelligent bunnies have quite short attention spans! My bun Pickles really likes having cardboard of any kind that he can throw! or you can stuff little wooden or paper boxes with hay or Rookie’s favourite treats and then he’ll be too distracted. Should keep him entertained for hours.
Also, if that doesn’t work, I’ve heard of people putting citrus juice on the bars to stop the gnawing, but I don’t know which kinds are okay for bunnies….I wouldn’t recommend you try this without doing some research as to what kinds of juices are okay for them but bitter enough to stop the gnawing. I’ve never had this issue with a rabbit before but have used lemon juice to calm down a hamster with cage rage/ bar-biting issues.
Also, is he in the same room all the time ? That can get boring for bun. If you have any other rooms that are safe, try letting him out into those for a while (under supervision at first)…..Pickles I’ve found likes to come into the living room with me and watch television, and a lot of our ‘play sessions’ start with a selfie shoot on my bed which he always thinks is great xD
Sorry for the essay…but hope this helps!

No no I appreciate the essay….
I have a loft apartment and he has a complete reign over the bottom floor…two bathrooms, kitchen, living room and my bedroom. Not much more I can open up for him…
He has many boxes of all sizes to hide and play with as well…I’m hoping the arrival of the bunny condo from this site will give a bit of a change for him…
It just seems odd to me that he does it…it’s not like he is closed in and wants to be let out…”you went in! Just come out!”
I might try confescating some of the toys then and switch them around…
I’m gonna try and see a pattern…see when he does it and maybe I can figure out the message he is trying to send…
