I know LBJ10 had a fitness thread going for a while, but I couldn’t find it for the life of me, so it must be a few months back. ANYWHO, I thought I might as well make another one. We are now getting near a dangerous time for those who celebrate this Holiday-Thanksgiving! Or as I like to call it, “Set your scales back 10 pounds day”.  But the whole Holiday season is not a great time for those trying to get in shape/stay in shape. So here’s a thread for us to share our goals/progress/encouragement with one another.

I’m looking into doing a 30 day fitness challenge. Right now I’m trying to decide between the “30 day squat challenge”, the “30 day beach body challenge” and the “30 day LBD (little black dress) challenge”. Now I always get these great ideas and goals and start doing them with a passion for the first day or two and then that passion will fizzle out and I’ll be watching Netflix with a bag of chips. (Uhg why are chips so good?) So you’ll all have to help remind me and keep me on track.  My goal is to lose 20 pounds to start with and see how I feel then. ANYWAY, I am starting to just ramble on, so congrats if you made it through this entire post!

Here’s the link to the challenges I want to take. It probably won’t be clickable since I have emoticons in this post, so if it’s not I’ll post it in a comment for easy access.

I was just thinking about that thread. LOL

OMG, don’t get me started. I’m going to cry. I have failed absolutely miserably and losing any weight at all. =\

It was back in July, I read some of it

My goal is always to be stronger, leaner and healthier. I have been lifting iron for coming up on 7 years. I don’t want to lose weight, just adjust the body composition, less fat, more muscle. I have been out of the gym for 7 weeks due to surgery.

I was so passionate about training I became a certified personal trainer.

So yesterday I did all the exercises for all three challenges, although I doubt I’ll be able to keep all three challenges up because they just get harder! lol.

I doubt they’ll work though, I’m skeptical over those sorts of things.

Moxie was a terrible exercise companion, she kept running over to me and flopping under me while I was doing a push up or something so I’d be in an awkward position trying to get back down. And while I was doing the plank she decided to jump onto the back of my knees to use me as a stepping stone to get to my bed lol.

Josephine does the same with push ups. I kiss her little head each time I come down !

I viewed the squat challenge. I’m not sure if those numbers are spaced throughout a day or all at once ?

I did the 100 push-up challenge a couple of years back, I never finished it but I got to the point where I could do 70 in one go, which I think is pretty good considering. Now I do 33 push-ups. I do them before or after spinning or both.
I love spinning most of all types of work-outs. My goal is to do a 4-5 hour spinning class in March, while the Vasaloppet (a huge cross-country ski-race) is on tv. The class lasts as long as the race does. I’ve never done more than 180 consecutive minutes of spinning. It’s a fun challenge.

Love the idea of this thread. Yay for motivating each other!
I’d like to lose a little bit of weight but it’s not my main motivation, I’d more like to be all-round fitter.
A couple of months ago I tried to get motivated but I haven’t really done much in the last few week, maybe this thread will be the reminder I need.
                      Let’s do this guys

Wow 33 ? I was only up to about 25 before surgery. I don’t do a lot of chest work now, mostly chin ups and dead lifts. Good on you Bam for loving cardiorespiratory work, I’d rather poke my eyes with a stick !

Being more fit is always a better goal than weight loss Lili

I used to seriously hate cardio-respiratory work outs. Spinning was a near-death experience each time and when people said they loved spinning I didn’t believe them, like what’s to love about spinning??? Well, now I’m one of those that love spinning and it actually is perfectly possible to love spinning. I love to push myself and feel that I’m using my lungs to their full capacity.

I just couldn’t do 100 bicycle crunches yesterday, I only made it to 36. But afterwards I had a work day helping rake for a couple hours so I hope that helps make up for the 64 I couldn’t do

Yep, this “baby bump” of mine just keep getting bigger and bigger. I don’t know why I fail so miserably, except that exercise is hard. I can do certain things, but not others.

Moxie – Yard work isn’t too bad of exercise, but you have to put some effort into it to really burn any calories.

Fat loss is usually about diet. Working out helps to increase metabolic demands ( calorie burning. ) Muscle itself demands calories, even at rest.

Most women are afraid to lift because of the myth of becoming large and muscled. Unless one utilizes steroids, that won’t happen. I’m very tiny and have lifted 200+ lbs.

                                        Yard work is great !

Another plus for weight lifting, is you burn calories for days afterwards. Nice perk.

You just need to consume less calories than you use to lose weight, regardless of the diet. You can use the many different calculators on line that will help you put in your weight and approximate activity level to gauge how many calories you need to maintain. Go under that to loose. Eating healthier foods, are generally lower in calories so you can usually enjoy eating more if you eat lots of veggies and fruits. Plus the health benefits to eating a healthy diet. But even if you eat a strict pastry diet, if stay under on the calories you will lose.

All this is of course easier said than done. As I get into middle age I tend to not be as active and my love of cooking doesn’t help…well that might be my love of eating haha.

I have lost almost 50 pounds in the past 6 months. I haven’t exercised more at all. All I have done is change what I eat. I have to go gluten free because of health issues so I eat less carbs. I don’t recommend going necessarily gluten free, just reducing your carb intake.

I don’t think I eat that much. At least not normally. During the week, I usually eat simple things for lunch like fruit, veggies, and rice. We don’t have very good facilities where I work, so nothing complicated.

But I’ve been doing Just Dance 2014 on our wii to exercise and other random exercises I choose to do. I’m going to start running our dogs too, although the puppies still don’t walk good on a leash (they pull and pull and PULL)so it’s kinda un-enjoyable. But they won’t learn if we don’t teach them.

Moxie, it really is un-enjoyable to train a dog to walk on a leash, I tried it yesterday with the dog my mother is dog-sitting. It made me remember when Ephi was little and we’d walk all of like 100 yards or so, back and forth, endless stops and turns when she pulled. But it did pay off and it’s such a joy to have a dog that doesn’t pull on the leash.

I’ve not done any other exercise than walking since Monday, when I did a medicine ball work out-class. I’m still sore =) It was really tough! We jumped up and down and did ass-to-the-grass squats and burpees and like a million sit-ups holding that awful heavy medicine ball. It was fun though, mostly because I survived =)

Weather to inclement for bike riding ? Or is that 1/2 by car ? That would be quite the distance. Choosing exercises you know you will do is most important. Even though sometimes doing ones you don’t like as much is necessary for weaker areas.

You could google ” full body workout ” and choose one you like. If you had a chin up bar or such at home that would be great. They make some that go over doorways. As previously mentioned ” medicine balls ” ( Ha ha Bam, wait it hurts to laugh ) can provide quite the workout !

I will look at some programs and see if I can find a good one, but ultimately the only ” good ” program is the one people will enjoy doing.

Moxie, and anyone, my suggestion (if you are looking for something like this) is to take a martial arts class! I’ve been doing them for about a year and not only do I feel much healthier, but I’m stronger and I feel more confidant (yes, I am very well aware that I sound like a commercial ) Anyway, it’s an idea! you can usually find a well-priced place that only requires a night or two a week.

It works especially well for me, because with how busy I am, if I don’t have a time scheduled for something, I won’t get it done!

If it’s not warm enough for a hoodie I’m not interested. It’s VERY windy and it’s snowing a bit. But since Zero is a husky he didn’t care and was minorly annoyed we went in early lol.

I was surprised how easily my body remembered everything.

It took me a few years just to learn how to breathe. Lol
