I’m a do-it-yourself kinda girl. So when I found an old puppy hut and some plywood I decided to construct my own hut for Nalu.

I want to make sure it is safe though. It is made of plywood but is painted with interior paints. Is that potentially hazardous? Also, the house itself belonged to a dog and who knows what else prior. It’s a super cute hut and all, I just want to make sure it will be safe for my bun to stay in while I’m not around to supervise!

Here is the hut and the materials I was going to use:

Ok, first of all that little hut is adorable, did you add Nalu’s name on yourself, it looks great

I’ve been thinking about building a hutch for sally myself and apparently plywood is a good choice because it’s not very yummy for bunnies.

I can’t imagine that it having once belonged to a dog would be an issue, I’d just give it a pretty good scrub.
I’m not too sure about the paint could you maybe cover it with something? I’m sure there are some more experience bunny owners on here than me to give you some ideas.

Pretty please post pictures when you’re done?

Also in my hunt to get inspired for sally’s hutch I found this old thread where someone suggests peal and stick tiles as flooring maybe that could cover up the paint?

Aw thanks! I painted it myself and am excited to make it her little bunny hut because its so cute!
Good to know about the plywood, now I feel more secure that she wont be chewing off the walls since it is completely constructed of plywood. I cleaned it out too, so that should be fine, I guess my only standing concern would be the interior paint being poisonous… Though there isn’t much of the paint, just on the beams I’m going to use as the frame for the wire to wrap around…
Definitely build Sally one of her own! I feel like it helps strengthen the bond and nothing shows that you care for your bun more Plus its a fun mini home-reno project hehe and gives you the totally customization option. I’m thinking of adding little garden boxes!
I’ll definitely post pictures when I’m done Hopefully I can have it done in the next few days! My bun is running rampant in my room as of now…. !

Good luck on your hut building endeavors! Post pics of your progress as well I’d love to seeeee! Your bun is adoooooorable by the way!!!

Maybe you could staple gun the wire to the inside of the wood beams to minimize access, instead of wrapping around. I’m not sure if I’m explaining that very well but hopefully you get the idea.
I LOVE the garden box idea, it sounds like you’re well on your way to creating the cutest little home for Nalu. I’m sure she’ll love it.
I’m probably moving in a few months so i’m going to wait until i can customize it a bit better for whatever space I end up in.

                Can’t wait to see progress

I have thought of that! I’m still tinkering around with it, we’ll see what comes of it! I’m very excited as well.
good luck on your move! Hope everything goes smoothly for and the bun!

hopefully I’ll be posting pictures soon to give you some ideas
