        Hey guys!

I’m thinking of bringing another bunny home this weekend and I’m a little nervous about the whole bonding process. We currently have one male bunny, he’s about 11 months and has been neutered for about 2 months. We would be bringing home a baby, female. He’s been surrendered to our local pound twice in his little life – so he’s been around lots of other animals before.

Questions: I’ve read that it can be hard to bond bunnies when they are ‘teenagers’. Would he be considered one? Does that matter if he’s been neutered?

We are planning to spay any female that we get. Does this need to be done before they bunnies are introduced? Is spaying necessary when having a female/male pair if the male is neutered? We are looking at it to prevent cancer more than anything.

Any other tips or bonding stories would be appreciated! We don’t live in a very rabbit friendly place – the internet is my only source of info. I’m so jealous of cities that have rabbit shelters and rabbit societies!! I get weird looks when I tell people I have a bunny..

Hi, I moved your thread to the Bonding Forum.

Age doesn’t matter as long as both are spayed and neutered. It is advisable to wait until after your new girls is spayed and given time for her hormones to settle down (several weeks after the spay) before doing any bonding work. Spaying is very important for bonding as females are usually very territorial and can be aggressive about it.

If you haven’t yet, check out the Bonding Info here on BB, in the Bunny Info section. Lots of great info there as well as links to bonding journals from members.
