        Soooooo awkward time lol
Hate to admit it, my female was never fixed, but haven’t had the money
My male was fixed well over a month and a half ago

I decided to try to bond them, instant he came out, SHE mounted him. Was adorable, kinda weird lol. We are also positive she was female. Now, the last hour, they have been going back and forth mounting each other then falling asleep together then back to mounting
        Soooooo

        1. Will my male ever grow out of it? Or does it have something to do with her making him mount?
        2. Why is my female acting like a like a dude? Lol

I have often wondered why I’ve never seen this between my rabbits, like EVER. It’s been six months. Maybe mine are weird.

Threads I’ve read females do that normally.

How long before you put them together after your boy was neutered? I only ask because boys can retain sperm for 4 weeks, sometimes up to 6 weeks post-neuter.

As for the mounting, rabbits of both sexes do it. It’s a dominance thing. One bunny will try humping the other to say they are top bun (or to test the waters, so to speak). When the humpee doesn’t agree with the idea, then they will turn the tables. It can turn into a battle of sorts until someone finally decides to step down.

That being said, your girl is probably hormonal too. Hormones can do some pretty strange things, making bunnies aggressive at times and it is difficult for them to form a bond. Your girl might be switching back and forth between concerns about dominance and concerns about having babies. That’s why it’s a good idea to have everyone spayed/neutered before there are any attempts at bonding.

I know you’ve probably heard this already, but it really is in your girl’s best interest to have her spayed. Not only will her hormones create obstacles to bonding, but she is at risk of cancer. Depending on genetics, females have a 50-80% chance of developing uterine cancer by age 4.

I am aware of the cancer and all the awful things but I truly do not have the 200-300$ right now. We are struggling just to have food on the table, or believe me, I would

It has been more than 6 weeks since he was fixed and this was their first time bonding since.

I understand money limitations. At least you’re aware of the risks and can plan accordingly. The risk increases at 3-4 years old, so you have some time yet.

Meanwhile, I would stop any attempts at bonding and just house them separately. The hormones make things tricky. And you’re setting your girl up for cycles of false pregnancies and potential injury if they fight.

When circumstances improve and she is spayed, you can revisit bonding later.
