My sweet 8 month old Holland Lop, Penny, was spayed yesterday morning. We picked her up around 5 and she was groggy but didn’t take too long to start eating and drinking. Went to give her her liquid medication this morning and it was traumatizing for the both of us! While my sassy lady LOVES to be snuggled and pet, she does NOT like being picked up. And being that shes in pain, when I went to pick her up to attempt to give her medicine, she kicked and fuss and bit me. I gave her a few minutes to calm down and went to pet her and she lunged at me. Very, very unlike my girl. She’s usually the sweetest bun. I called the clinic to see if theres any other way to give her the medication (possibly putting it on food or something) and they told me they would call me back. In the meantime, I’m wondering if anyone has experienced this or have any suggestions for me! I have another syringe for her tomorrow and Thursday also.

well my bunny didn’t like his vitamins after his operation but we managed that trough the water. He didn’t mind it like that.

Some meds can be given mixed with f ex banana, canned pumpkin or baby food (fruit or berry). Unfortunately some meds have a strong taste and will taste bad even when mixed with sth. Metacam (a pain-killer) has a taste that’s often liked by bunnies so if it’s that, she could just hate the force-feeding and be willing to eat it mixed with sth yummy.

I’m currently in the same situation, my girl is also very loving normally but when I have to give her oral medication she goes nuts. Biting and kicking etc.
I now wear a think jumper for protection against her painful bites. And wrap her up in a burrito to make it easier.

That said she is smart and knows the jumper and the syringe and runs and hides and won’t let me near her. So it’s all still an ordeal

She is still a loving bunny besides this and it seems she just hates the force feeding situation
So I’d guess your girl is the same
If u can put in on food or in water then that’d be excellent
I hope u can both get through this

Thanks for your replies! My vet called me back and told me to mix her meds with some applesauce so that’s what I did and she ate it right up. I think it was just the force feeding/restraint she didn’t like. She took her last bit today. She’s been very stand off ish since then/her surgery so I’m hoping my sweet girl starts to come around soon!
