My baby Mr. Bun-bun, is the a disaster. He has a huge walk in closet with light, (no carpet) with tons of toys and diversion. However, I like to let him roam the house at night. Nice right? So I always close my door because for some reason he between 5 and 5:30 , runs stark crazy through the whole house, and has, on occasion, scratched my self and my husbamd in the face by bun jumping. I had my door closed and kept hearing a noise. He was having a panic attack. I took him to the vet. He said evetwas fine but that I should br accessible to him at all times. So I wake up this morning to my crazy bunny completely tangled in my hair. It was not a pleasant experience for either of us. How can I alm this bun diwn? I know he needs to be neutered.

He won’t be seen until the midfle of November as the vet is booked. What can I do in the mean time to calm him down without provoking another panic attack as that scared me very badly. I love my bun and I will do anything to keep him safe. I feel bad if I have to keep him in his palace all night.

Willow is only in her pen at night while I am asleep. She’s out while I am awake.

Can you just change the time you let mr bunbun out? Willow also has a thing for hair.

Am I right in thinking your vet cocluded that he has some form of separation-anxiety?
If he has, he needs to be near you, so that he can see you and hear you.
It’s not really a sexually motivated problem, so neutering him will probably not resolve it.

I’m rather at loss for ideas here, the only thing I can think of right away would be to get a second rabbit, because two bonded rabbits have all the company they need in each other.

I had a dog who had separation anxiety and would absolutely destroy my home if I was not home. So I had to kennel train her and as I got her as an adult dog with no previous training it was a pretty long hard road. But there was no separation anxiety if I was there.

it doesn’t seem like it would separation anxiety since you are right there when it’s happened. If I remember correctly he was digging in your bed and scratched your husband and now its the hair thing.

Tangling in your hair itself may of caused a panic. I have very long hair and if an animal manages to get wrapped up in it it can cause panic which is scary, hair can actually be quite dangerous with small animals, if a small piece wraps tightly around a limb. If you can imagine, a friend of mines bird managed to get a long piece of her hair wrapped around his tongue. I’m not sure who panicked more, the humans or the bird, but it was a horrible stressful event.

In BunBun’s case, hopefully a lot of what is driving him is hormonal so if you have to change the routine you are most comfortable with it probably won’t be forever, just long enough for a neuter and then the hormones to subside.

My bunny Yohio used to jump on my head and chew my hair to get attention. He has stopped, I think I got the message through to him that it was an unwanted behavior. I know another member here (AndHenry) had the same problem with her Henry, he actually managed to modify her hair-style with his teeth.
Nowadays Yohio just licks me on my arm to wake me, and only in the mornings when it’s time for me to get up anyway, he has adjusted to my hours.

Bunnies as well as other mammals mellow with age. If it is separation anxiety and a need for contact, imo the best remedy is to provide company.

Bam thank you. I am looking into another bun however I want him to pick the bun he wants. We are going to the shelter to adopt so I will be taking him. But I am waiting until after he is fixed. Do you think for the time being that a fake friend will do? A stuffed bun? I am starting back to work soon. (Monday) I do not want to leave him alone.
