I have two rabbits. One is 10 months old, and the other is 7 months old; and they’re both boys (Rocky and Sirius Black). The older guy is always trying to hump the younger one ( i feel like i’m encouraging a prison rape when i let them get together). they never fight though, thankfully. I have not had them neutered yet, i’m hoping to be able to afford it in the next 2-3 months. Their cages are right next to each other so they’re constantly around each other and I sometimes see them laying next to each other, but the second the cages aren’t keeping them from each other its weird love making time for Rocky. Anyone have any suggestions to help the situation in the time being before I can get them neutered?

I would wait to bond them until after they are neutered, they haven’t fought yet, but male rabbits will fight extremely savagely in some cases when they haven’t been neutered ( a friend i knew lost both her boys they fought that badly). Also by their ages, they should have some hormonal growth by around 10 months, i would make sure you don’t have a male and a female because if that is the case you may end up with some baby bunnies on the way . If you do have a male and female they would definitely need to be separate and even some rabbits have managed to mate through bars…..

I agree. Their hormones are all crazy. Best to wait until after they are neutered to attempt any real bonding. But some humping during bonding is normal as this can also be a dominance thing.

I’m glad to hear they haven’t fought, but as others have said it’s best not to bond them until after neutering – this is because hormones can make rabbits unpredictable.

It can be hard to tell dominance humping from sexual humping, but if there’s a musky smell about then it’s a sign there’s hormones revved up.

I would keep them side by side so they can relax together (being mindful of the potential for biting through the bars, my first pair never did while unneutered but it’s not worth the risk) and swap their pens so they get used to each others scent if you want to re-use the toys or pens after bonding to reduce territorial behaviour.
