I have 3 bunnies,A Rex,a Flemish giant and a chinchilla. I say that we (me and my wife live in our bunnies cage) It is our little house really. We are on a 1/2 acre fenced in yard and I normally wake up at 5:30 to 6 am everyday and let them out. They eat on the porch every morning together and normally come in around 9-930 Am. they stay inside til around 6 pm then they go outside again until 11 when I walk out and walk behind them while they make there way back inside. I spend a lot of time with each one and it pays off big as I can walk up to them in the open yard and lay down with them for a nice visit. My oldest is right at 5 years old that is the Rex.I am telling everyone a little about our living conditions. I vacuum our 12×12 room often and the rst of the house is tile.I use the carpet shampooer weekly and they use the litter box kind of good. But they have some flea’s not a lot but some. Is Boric acid powder  safe for Bunnies? I really am looking for someone to say yes I use it more then a I think so. Living with them I never get bit by flea’s in our house but I have seen them by my girls eyes and they scratch more then I like for them.

I do recall reading that is what to use, however I don’t recall the particulars of use.

There is revolution flea treatment for rabbits.

Like diatomaceous earth, boric acid is safe to use in the bunny area (i.e. sprinkle on carpet and vacuum up while bunnies are not in the room). I would not recommend putting it ON bunny. They could inhale the powder or ingest it and that wouldn’t be good for them.

BunLuv is correct about Revolution. It is the safest of the topical treatments. Never ever use Frontline on a bunny. I’m not saying you would, but I always feel like I need to point it out because some bad things have happened in the past. Frontline is toxic to rabbits and it can cause seizures and death.

Here is the link relating to flea issues in rabbits. Surprisingly Advantage, program ( stronghold in Europe ) are also okay, frontline and sentinel are not advised. I just treated my cat for fleas..hopefully the rabbits can avoid it. I noticed Miss Josephine scratching !

Thanks for the replies, I tried to upload a picture of my girls but it said my picture was to big. We have also bathed them with dawn with good results. I was under the impression that revolution was very good but not so much with more then 1 bunny that can lick it off of the other bunnies. I can not see being able to keep them apart for very long. Our house is the closest thing to a cage they have.

You can download a free program called variedrop to resize your pics, they mustn’t be larger than 500 Kb. Or you can upload them to an external album like Picasa or photobucket etc and paste the link here.

If your bunnies groom each other all the time, maybe you should try and get injectable ivermectin (Ivomec) for the fleas instead of a topical treatment. You would otherwise need to keep the girls separated for preferably at least 24 hours in order for the treatment to kill the fleas. (And as you know, it’s not healthy for bonded bu nnies to be separated). Ivermectin is also bunny safe.

Oh that seems like a good alternative. I was wondering how one would administer topical without separation. I think mine escaped the cat’s fleas again this time.

Just to tell you more about our Bunnies, For story sake. Last year we took a trip from Florida to Niagara falls. We did not have the chinchilla bunny yet so it was just our rex and Flemish giant. We got small dog harnesses and took them out at a lot of rest stops along the way and parks. We did have to pay a little extra at hotels for having pets. But overall they made the trip very nice. I have a Titian king cab truck so they had a lot of room. Also you can not go into Canada with bunnies. just so everyone knows, They were well received every where we went and people just loved them.It was October so the weather was perfect as well. They got to yet greens in every state along the way, I am sure my friends think I am nuts, But you can never spend to much time with your rabbits. I think it might be better for me then them…lol.
