I was putting Zee back in her cage last night and she jumped out of my arms and kinda flailed along the side of the cage.  I then noticed that she was favoring her left front paw.  I tried checked it out, but she kept running away from me.  When I finally got her, I massaged her paw and nothing seemed to be broken, and she never bit or nipped as if I was hurting her.  We then let her roam out in the apartment to see how she was fairing.  She was running about, jumping on the couch, relaxing and acting as if nothing happened, but she never put full pressure on her paw.  She would try and tuck her paw up like an injured paw does.

This all happened at 11pm, so obviously all vets were closed.  A friend mentioned Metacam, but I can’t get that over the counter.  All vets are closed today as well (Sunday).  This morning she is still not using her paw or putting pressure on it, but doesn’t seem to be in pain (but what do I know, I’m not a rabbit).

Does this sound concerning?  Should I find a vet first thing on monday?

It could be that her foot is just sore from hitting up against the cage, but it could also be something more serious that requires treatment or medication, so it would be best to make a vet appointment Monday morning. It might be better not to let her jump on the couch or elsewhere until you know what is wrong, since that could further injure her paw or make it more tender. I hope that she will get a good report at the vet and be fine soon.

This happened to Jersey once. The vet concluded it was a sprain. She only had the one shot of anti inflammatory, they never sent me home with any meds. Jersey carried on as normal, just kept her paw tucked up. It took 2 weeks until she was completely back to normal. It always worried me seeing her hop around that way but honestly, she just did everything as if she wasn’t injured.

Poor baby! Yes, it would be a good idea to have her checked out if she’s still not putting weight on it.

                UPDATE:

So we decided to take her to the vet on Monday. The vet said it didn’t look like a break for fracture, so xrays probably wern’t necessary. So they gave us some medication for two weeks. She also said if she was still limping around, to come back this weekend for the xrays. We also downsized her cage so she doesn’t move around TOO much (shes not happy about this). Since the vet, she still isn’t putting 100% weight back on it, and tucks it most of the time when shes standing or sitting. Unfort, I am going out of town for two weeks. My husband is watching her, and will administer her the meds, so hopefully when I get back, she’ll be alright!

I am back from my vacation and Zee is 100% better. She has been putting weight on foot and prancing around like nothing ever happened!!! So glad my girl is happy and healthy!
