So i have a very playful cat and whenever she plays it isnt always nice so she bites and scratches and its pretty funny, but i have a 6 month old english lop bunny and i really want them to get along and my cat not to “play” with her all the time. My cat goes up to her cage and sticks her paw in it trying to scratch the bunny, and the bunny really doesn’t seem to care much, but im scared if i let them looses together my cat will try and chase the bunny. She has also done this before when the bunny accidentally got out of her cage and my cat chased her but didn’t hurt her, is there some sort of special step by step process i should do to get them to get along?

We are in the process of introducing our new kitten to our mini lop as we speak.
How old is your cat? I sometimes find the older they are the harder it can be to teach them that this prey animal is not for eating. You know?
Our kitten is only a few months old so right now Rosie is bigger then him so it’s easier to see each other as equals or playmates.

I have 3 cats. 2 of them grew up with my rabbit.
The other cat is a stray I took in, she hit Boonie pretty hard once and I told her off and now they basically stay away from each other. Boon is free range in the house so the cats and her are always around each other, and Boon is a lover, she wants to be friends with everyone. So often I find she’ll come right up to the previously stray cat, and I have to step in because the cat will hit her if I don’t. So it’s been like 3 years of this and that cat is still the same. She usually stays away from the rabbit because she doesn’t want to get in trouble with me. But she hasn’t ever caused boon any serious damage.

As for the other 2 cats, one is fine with Boonie and never plays rough or anything, and the other cat who’s my only boy cat. He’s in love with my rabbit. But at times he plays too rough and has chased her too. But he is never trying to hurt or scare her. Unfortunately he does sometimes though. He has made her bleed once, from his nail getting caught in her back. But I think that was more her fault, because she humps him and he hates that.
Aside from that they always love each other no matter what.
I do worry that he’ll claw her somewhere like her eye. And that is a possibility. Though in 2 years together he never has.

I guess the thing is cats can play rough at times, especially when excited. So it’s never going to be perfect. You could clip the cats nails maybe, if possible.

Generally I don’t think a cat would bother trying to eat a rabbit, they’re a bit too big.
My rabbit has safe places though that she can run to if the cat is being crazy

Supervision is the main thing, and guiding the cat, with my boy cat I find saying “No” and tapping him on the nose (not too hard) when he does something wrong is helpful.

Always be aware accidents can happen and remove the cat if he’s really playing up.

I don’t know a step-by-step process but here are some tips that may help:
*Most rabbits are close to some cat sizes, it would be a lot of work for the cat and the rabbit may fight back. Also, you would be on the cat before it did any bad harm.
*Never hurt the cat, hitting etc., the cat will then be scared of you and the bunny. Which is never good.
Thats all I know, I’m sure there are guides and videos out there that teach you.

My cat is only 2 years old but is always in a playful mood, and she mostly plays rough…. Which im worried i do not think i would ever be able to have both of them get along 24/7 also without anyone getting hurt. Penny (my cat) will most likely chase her and maybe bite
and claw because thats just how she plays, i dont think she will ever try and hurt her but maybe by accident, i was just hopeing if there was any way i could just stop penny from chasing my bunny and i will try the punishment thing. I also have a spray bottle that may work. Penny can be quite cuddly at times and im hoping both of them could be buddies because i want ashley to have a friend ( i only have one bunny) but im also afraid i i use the spray bottle penny will just be afraid of me and the bunny, and i dont want her to be afraid of the bunny haha

My cat weighs 3kg, my bun is 6kg so being prey is very unlikely! lol.
My cat is a territorial fighter outdoors but bigtime cuddler indoors and tends to run away (or throw a right hook!) when bun comes “bounding” up to say “helloooo” in your face! (excuuuse me! that’s NOT cat etiquette!) but if bun is not in bounding mode then they spend time in each others company quite happily.
I have down-on-the-floor stroking sessions with both (with one head in each hand) and by holding bun still (stroking sweet spot on nose) the cat can have a good old calm sniff (especially round ‘derriere’) to try and work out what this species is and get accustomed to her…!!
(My lurcher-cross dog-training entitled ‘resist inbred instincts and DON’T eat the rabbit’ was supervised somewhat closer !!!! and now bun bounds through dogs legs safely & unsupervised!)
                  Good luck !
