Our landlord was fixing our backdoor, and we had the entrance to the kitchen blocked off.

well at some point Speckles found the blockade, and escaped out the backdoor. We spent six hours putting up flyers, looking for her, and offered a reward. We went door to door, called every vet and animal shelter in a thirty mile radius to us, and called in all of our friends. Even took off work last minute, when we explained to our bosses what happened. Our friends and neighbors helped search the town, and one friend searched the apartment after us to double check.

So many tears were shed, and a lot of hysterics obviously. But in the end we found her. When the sun fell, after six long hours of searching we went back to my apartment to get food and check my facebook because I had posts on all the local sites. I put in an order for food since none of us had eaten that day, and asked my friend Tori to get my boyfriends order. She went to our room but stopped, and all I heard was her yell for us. I got up and followed her, who had ventured into our room, and move the small nightstand that holds my underwear. She lifts it, and pulls out our beautiful baby girl.

Speckles had never left the apartment, she just knocked down the barrier. All the banging from having the back door replaced must have startled her enough to flatten herself and find a new hiding place. We all had checked the apartment multiple times, but she was invisible there in that nook.

The weirdest bit was the entire time Tori kept saying she felt like she was there, and kept telling us to go back and check the apartment although we had torn it apart searching for her. She said too that when she saw Speckles she was sitting in the hallway, and she just rubbed her eyes, thinking she was seeing things from being so hungry.

So since we got her, we have all just been snuggling Speckles, and crying in relief, and here she is, baffled at why her humans are doing this. She has no idea what hell she put us through, and it solidified in my mind how we are now most definitely microchipping the both of them.

Wow! That must have been terrifying! I’m so glad she was safe at home. It’s awesome how your friends and neighbors rallied round to help.

Oh yeah, I’ve been there! Not with my bunny, but back when we had ferrets, I can say they pulled that one more times than I liked. Nothing like searching the neighborhood, making flyers, if at night, not getting any sleep…only to find them in some strange new place in the house. The amount of relief though…feels sooooooo good.

Thank goodness she was safe! I can definitely understand what you went through. I had Jersey disappear when she was my only rabbit. Think I cried myself to sleep. Happily, she hopped back the next day.

So glad she was found safely! I would have been so terrified….I’ve lost one of my boys before, but he was only missing for about an hour before I found him in his new hiding place (that has since been blocked off, lol)

                      So glad you found her.

We once had a cat, Pushkin, who was incredibly good at hiding. After the first few times going nuts searching the neighborhood, just to find him waiting for us at home, we stopped worrying when we couldn’t find him. We also had to cancel numerous vet appointments, after turning the house upside down looking for him. If he got the slightest hint we were going to the vet we wouldn’t see him for hours.

So glad you found her! My heart would’ve stopped, I can only imagine how you must’ve felt all those 6 hours. Terrible terrible little girl! I bet she just wanted to play dress up with mummy’s underwear

Oh Speckles, you are what I call Olly sometimes, a little monkey.
I’m glad you found her and I bet she was looking round as if to say. “Yeah I went missing so?” Or “What you crying for?”
