My vet must think I’m mad. We seen a different vet today who had never met the boys, she was quite patronising actually but thats not the point. I took the boys together, Bramble was due his teeth check and Ron needed weighed. The both needed their nails done, we cant get within ten feet or Ron with clippers and Bramble still has this weird thing where he wont let anyone touch his back right foot.

I got Bramble out first, he actually seems to love going to the vets and having everyone else fussing over him and i had told the vet this. Well my poor baby was terrified, there was a dog in the back barking his head off and although he usually tries to make friends with dogs in the waiting room, this barking was terrifying my poor baby. He wouldnt let the vet near his mouth and it took two of us to pin him down and get the scope in. Thankfully his teeth are ok, he let her do his front feet but like i told her he was having none of letting her near the back ones so a vet nurse was brought in to hold him and between the three of us we managed to get them done. This is not typical Bramble behaviour at all, he is usually so well behaved at the vets – when he was in for his last dental they told me he is the best behaved, least fearful rabbit they have on their books. Not today!

Then it was Ron’s turn. I warned the vet that Ron appears terrified of the vets and was a total nut-job the last time we were there. We have only had him a few months and dont know his history but when he had his first check up he was terrified and kept trying to jump off the exam table and everything, it took three of us to try and get him a quick examination and stop him falling off the table. So Ron comes up onto the table and i grab him out the carrier, this wasnt the bit that worried me because he actually doesnt mind being picked up, i put him on the table and immediately tried to block him from being able to jump down. He sat there like an angel! The vet was just looking at me like ‘this is the nut-job bunny that tries to jump off the table? Really??’ he let her look at his teeth, listen to his chest, feel him for lumps and bumps, let the vet nurse hold him and the vet clip the nails in about two minutes or less.

No wonder the vet was so patronising, I clearly looked like i had never even met my own bunnies before!

The good news is that the boys are both in good health, Bramble’s teeth are not showing signs of spurs and Ron has even managed to lose a tiny bit of weight.

LOL Yeah, the vet thinks I’m insane when I tell them it’s nearly impossible to cut Wooly’s nails. And he thumps at even the sight of the carrier. Get him there and he’s an absolute angel. *sigh* That’s funny about Bramble (not funny that he was terrified, but funny that it was the exact opposite situation).

Nail trimmings are the worst! It takes at least 2 vet techs to get Moxie’s nails done. One to hold her and one to trim, and me to fuss over Moxie and comfort her.

Ah, Mr Roger and George have always been really good at the vets. They’re always telling us that we must handle them really well and how nice they are, haha.

Charlie isn’t terrible… but he definitely doesn’t get any awards for sitting still or complying which is funny because at home he’s an angel.

Tossu is quite the wild beast at the vet’s, he will try to escape the table at any cost. Sukka, however… she didn’t even flinch or try to pull away when the vet was drawing blood from her forelegs! She was completely fine with everything. Fur being trimmed, blood being drawn… apparently she even stood still for the x-rays.

Our vet fell in love, she said Sukka is the easiest rabbit patient she’s ever had.

My vet always tells me that my bunny ‘was so good!’ when they do xrays, etc. But she does not like strangers and the fresh scratch marks on the vet’s arms always tell the true story. She has quite the far reaching back paws when she wants to be put down! Thank goodness for the vets who will remain sweet and calm to our otherwise loving bunnies when they are trying to help them! haha
