Forum DIET & CARE 12 week old rabbit diet help!!!!!

        Okay so chloe is 12 weeks old now and the pet shop told me at 1 year i should gradually introduce her to timothy hay and all these websites and stuff are giving different times to introduce timothy hay !!! Help!!!!

        And also when i introduce timothy what do i do about her pellets do i get a new type or pellets increase ? decrease ?

          You can (and should) introduce timothy hay now. Has she never had any hay? A bunny certainly should eat hay before she’s a year old =) Hay is very important for a bunny. Pet shop staff often don’t know very much about the animals they sell.

          You can keep her on the same kind and amount of pellets until she’s about 6 months old. Young bunnies need more protein than adult bunnies and young-rabbit-food is richer than adult food. You can also give some alfalfa hay until she’s about 6 months old.

          If you introduce hay now, you can wait a couple of weeks more with introducing fresh vegs. Normally 12 weeks is the time when you start introducing fresh greens, but a bunny should never get too much new food all at once, so I think you can do hay first and then greens.
