        A girl I know recently messaged me asking if I want her rabbit for free. She has tried to sell him in the past and I messaged her asking if he’s if it was a boy or girl. She said she wasn’t sure but she thought it to be a boy so I assumed she wouldn’t know if it’s fixed since she wasn’t even sure of the gender. Anyways obviously I decided not to take him because i have a bunny already and we don’t know if she’s fixed because we found her on the streets and I don’t want any little babies! Well fast forward a few months to now, she’s moving and she can’t afford him, rent and her new puppy so she offered him to me because she thought I’d be the best home. I said I wasn’t sure because Juniper isn’t fixed yet (soon!!!) and I didn’t know if we would be able to get them both done. Well apparently he’s neutered already (I shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions) so I said sure I’ll take him! A free bunny that’s already fixed?! We were gonna get one from a rescue and pay out the butt!

        So I’m setting up a temporary 4×4 pen for him out of Juni’s old disassembled nic cube cage but I’m not sure how long my boyfriends dad will tolerate Oreo (new buns name until I find a cute boys berry name to match Juniper) in the corner of his room. The rescue we were gonna go through to get Juni spayed cheaper just got a bunch of bunnies so they had to postpone booking her in under their name, and that plus her healing time will be at least a month if not more. I understand if I bond them they’ll both have to go to the vet when she gets spayed but is it ok to bond them once Oreo settles here or should I wait? I don’t want BFs dad to get annoyed and have us give Oreo to a rescue before we can get Juni fixed.
        Juniper is a total sweetheart though really laid back and from what I’ve been told (obviously I won’t know until I meet him) Oreo is also a little sweetheart…

        Idk my post is kind of all over the place but I’ve never had more than one bun at a time and I know Juniper has to be lonely while I’m at school all day and BF is at work so I don’t want to pass up this opportunity

          My only thought is to make sure you get verification the new boy is neutered-however she found out ( a vet?) should be able to write a certificate for you. There was some uncertainty on gender, so I wouldn’t take it on word that he’s neutered.

            She bought him from a local pet store that has a vets office attached. I’m pretty sure they neuter all their rabbits or offer a deal to do so (and shots, she said he’s up to date) with the sale but I’ll stop by today or tomorrow to be sure.

            On a side note here’s all the questions I’ve asked her so far;
            What vet do you use? Cottonwood
            How old is he? 2
            Last time his nails were done? Only been done once because it’s too hard to do alone
            What do you feed him? Pellets and alfalfa hay. Some veggies sometimes
            Can you list as many veggies as you can for me that you remember feeding him so I don’t upset his tummy? Carrot, broccoli, cauliflower stems, all as treats
            Has he ever been sick? Awaiting a response

            Am I forgetting anything?

              Regarding bonding, it’s always recommended that both rabbits be spayed or neutered before bonding is attempted. Has Juniper’s spay surgery already been rescheduled? Hopefully, that can be done fairly soon. My female rabbits never took a month or more to heal. They recuperated within 2 weeks (or less), and I was able to start bonding then. Of course, not all rabbits bounce back as quickly from surgery as others, but waiting a month or more seems excessive to me. My females started eating right away and showed no signs of pain after 2 or 3 days. After that, you never would have known they had just had surgery. I do know that other rabbits have had a harder time and will recuperate more slowly, but you can be the judge of Juniper’s recovery by observing her.

              Definitely make sure that the new bunny has been neutered, and get a written statement regarding that. One other question you could ask is what kind of litter he is used to, and also ask your friend for his pellets and litter so that you can start mixing those with the brands that you buy for Juniper.

                I don’t mean waiting a month until she’s healed, I mean it will probably be 2 or 3 weeks until she’s spayed plus however long it takes her to heal. Plus however long the bonding process takes because we don’t have room for two pens in our room.. Sorry for being unclear
