Hi! Lately i just started to try and trim my bunnies nails for the first time and to get her used to it i always just practiced holding and rubbing her feet so she could get used to the feel of it. But now it is time to trim her nails, i have tried all different sorts of methods but for her front feet i just trim the nails while she is latin down without restraining her. But she will NOT let me touch her back feet long enough to cut the nail.i have tried restraining her just a little but she randomly jerks while in my arms! Which makes it impossible to do, i try to stay calm so she doesnt freak out, but she startles me when she jerks! She does this even when im just holding her and not cutting her nails. And this jerking motion normally gets her out of my arms even if im holding her super tight or even loose!

Do you have someone who can help you? The only way I can trim by two buns nails is by having my husband hold the bunny at his shoulder (like burping a baby) and I grab the foot and do it that way. If bunny is still wiggly and nervous you can first try wrapping her in a towel. A frightened bunny is a crazy bunny and they will sometimes try to jump out of your arms so make sure if you get a helper they are comfortable holding her. And most bunnies hate having their feet handled, especially the back ones.

I haven’t attempted to trim my buns nails yet. I’m too scared but I know they need doing. He doesnt like being picked up at all though. Hoping to try and do them whilst he is relaxed like Ashley said. Been trying to stroke his feet so he gets use to them being touched. Hopefully this will help

When I take mine to have them done, the vet does the front ones while i hold them on the table, then for the back ones I hold them against my chest feet out while supporting under their bum. They still flinch, she said that is normal.

I just trimmed my rabbits nails this morning. I learned how by watching the How cast video. I actually put my towel on the floor, just to make sure nobody jumps off the table, and hunch over my rabbit. The trick she talks about wetting the fur around the nail to better see the quick is very helpful. Great video series about rabbit care!
