I’ve had my youngest bunny now for about 2 weeks and he’s been quite sneezy since we got him. Over the last week it got worse so we took him to the vets on Monday and he was given a week of antibiotics and some anti-inflammatory meds as he has a slight temperature. The vet said his chest and throat were clear and that it was upper-respiratory. He’s only had the sneezes and a bit of a wet nose, other than that his behaviour, eating and drinking has been absolutely fine. He still runs and binkys and has a very good appetite! He has only been on the antibiotics three days but I noticed last night he was doing louder sneezes, almost sounding like a cough, and doing 10 in a row rather than just one or two small ones. This morning when we gave him his meds (oral syringe) he was very snuffly and sounded like a little piggy for about 30 minutes. IS THIS NORMAL? So far the only improvement I’ve seen is that his nose isn’t as wet. His behaviour is still normal and nothing else has changed. I don’t know if it just takes time, this is the first poorly bunny I’ve had so I don’t know whether I’m just being impatient.

It may be that the antibiotic you were prescribed isn’t effective against the bacteria causing the sniffles. I’m assuming the vet just prescribed it without doing a culture, which is common procedure when you want to get a bunny started on meds asap. There are however many bacteria that may cause upper rispiratoryy infections in rabbits, and not all of them are sensitive to the same antibiotics.
So I think you should call your vet and describe what’s going on, and get another ab prescribed. Maybe they’ll want to wait a little longer, maybe they want him to come back in for a culture, or maybe they’ll just prescribe abs for the next-most-common bacteria that causes upper respiratory infection.

Another possibility is of course that the snuffles is from a virus, in which case no abs will be effective.
