I have a three year old boy lionhead and I’ve been looking for a friend for him. Earlier this week one of my friends told me that someone they knew was trying to find a home for their younger, girl lionhead so I took her. I’m new to rabbits in general and definitely don’t know what I’m doing with bonding. From what I’ve read it’s a bad idea to put a baby with an adult and it’s also a bad idea to put a neutered rabbit with a intact rabbit. Should I just wait to introduce them at all till she’s a few months older and has been spayed? What are the risks of trying to bond them now? Can I have them in the same room but in separate cages during this time? I’m worried about Jasper being lonely and bored so that seems better than nothing.

You should definitely wait until the younger bun is spayed plus one month before bonding. Before spaying, bunnies have lots of hormones that make them unpredictable, which could lead to fighting, and if they fight now it could hinder bonding at a later time. Even if you do get them to bond now it’s likely they will have a a falling out in a few months time when the girl reaches puberty. It’s much safer to wait.

okay, thanks that’s very helpful! I will definitely be waiting a few months then. I assume it’s okay to put their cages side by side unless they’re trying to fight through the bars or something, correct?

Yes, you can put their cages side by side as long as neither seem stressed out by it. And make sure they are not too close because buns can bite and cause damage through bars.
