I adopted Oakley from Animal services about 24 days ago the lady estimated that he was about 6 months. He’s a fairly big rabbit, triple the size of a 10 week old holland lip and that’s the size of Oakley. My concern is why haven’t his balls dropped yet? He’s been chinning things since the first day I brought him home, and he leaves poops EVERYWHERE but that could just be because he’s not very good at litter training. He uses the box but then it’s like he gets bored and goes else where. He has 3 different boxes in my room. He doesn’t spray but he did just recently began honking. Will his testies be dropping soon or is something wrong or what?

My female rabbit shows all the signs that would make you think she is an unneutered male, except she has female parts lol. Check to make sure your little male isn’t a female, as I had made a similar mistake. Since you got him from animal services, its also possible hes already been fixed (both my buns still chin every little thing in the house!)

Lillian provided some great advice. If you are concerned, I would advise you shedule a vet trip. The vet an determine whether your male is actually a female and if he/she might be fixed, or if something else is going on. There is a possiblity they just haven’t dropped yet and he’s a very late bloomer, but it’s always best to ask your vet.

I agree, he could be a she. Or he has already been neutered. Territorial marking isn’t completely eliminated by spaying/neutering. A change in environment can trigger a marking frenzy.

Note: There are cases of undescended  testicles too. So the best advice is to see a vet to see if there is indeed a problem or if you simply have a girl or a neutered boy.

Another possibility is they have descended, but he’s hiding them from you. Male bunnies have the ability to suck their testicles up into their body anytime they feel like their testicles might come to harm. You’re going to need a vet to figure out if he’s a misidentified female, already neutered male, is just hiding his testicles cause he overheard talk of neutering, or the testicles have not dropped for some reason.

Thank you for the great advice! Oakley has a appointment on Friday to see the vet to confirm what’s going on down there. Is there any way the vet could possibly estimate how old Oakley is?

How do you know when they have? My bun is driving me nuts. The vet said as soon as they drop I can bring him in. How do you know?

When the testicles have dropped you can as a rule see them. But buns can suck in their testicles when they feel threatened, so it’s not always possible to see them. A vet can feel for them though. How old is your rabbit?
