Sorry if this has been asked a bajillion times. I was hoping some people had examples of the “Hunched” posture that is common to rabbits. I keep reading about it, but am not sure. He has a vet appointment on Tuesday, but if he is in pain, I want to make sure I get him in sooner!

I’m not certain – I would say to you what other symptoms besides this hunching does he exhibit?

I guess when I think of hunched, I think of a bunny sitting with its back unusually arched. There is often tooth grinding going on too. Leopold will sit on his bottom all the time, but this doesn’t mean he’s in pain. He just likes to sit sometimes. I’ve never witnessed him arching his back, but I do know what he looks like when he has a tummy ache. He will press his stomach down toward the floor, sometimes laying his stomach flat on the floor but his hind feet will still be on their toes. It sort of looks like he’s trying to do a pushup, if that makes sense. He will also be restless and constantly changing positions.

What is your bunny doing exactly? Are the any other signs that he is uncomfortable? Is he eating, pooping, peeing, etc?

He is eating, pooping, and peeing. All very normal. The vet has been having me keep a close eye on his nose and eyes. His nose has been wet, and he’s been sneezing. And today he had a bit of wateriness in his left eye. However – he still runs around and plays, just once and a while I’ll catch him sitting very still and looking super uncomfortably hunched.

But then – more often than not he breaks in to a grooming session. I am just worried about the little fella, that is all. he is resting in his cage right now. Laying on his side, his feet stuck out behind like a dork.

Of course, we all worry about our bunnies at one point or another. You said you have an appointment Tuesday. If he is eating, pooping, peeing, etc. okay then it probably isn’t an emergency. There’s the possibility that he is a little uncomfortable, but it doesn’t appear to be bothering him enough to cause him to stop eating or anything like that.

I know a “hunched posture” is used to describe a certain pain position for rabbits, but I don’t think it’s really a useful description. Many of a rabbits normal positions resemble what would be called hunched in a human.

Simply sitting in a more arched breed, can look very hunched. When they bend over to get their cecals, it could be described as a hunched posture.

Is there some other reason you think your rabbit might be in pain?
