My baby boy Jax is about a month and half old, and growing out his hair at a very fast rate! I have recently noticed that the hair around his little butt has been growing a lot, and hay and poop have been sticking to it. Its usually pretty easy to remove when I take him out for his daily grooming, but is this hurting him in any way? Should I take him to the vet to have it trimmed?

If it doesnt seem to bother him and it doesnt get stained with poop or urine then there is no point in trimming it. If you decide to trim him you can trim it at home if he can sit still , be very very careful and make sure you dont nip his skin. One more thing is he still with his mother ?

No, I’m sorry. I meant he’s TWO and a half months old. I got him from a breeder a few weeks ago.

I thought he got separated at a young age ! So does his fluffy butt get stained with urine or anything?

If it gets to the point where it’s getting wet/stained in urine or matted I would trim it. Most long furred rabbits get hay chaff stuck in their fur, that can just be brushed out. Poop can be brushed out/picked out too or the fur trimmed to prevent it from getting stuck.

When you say poop is sticking to his fur, are the poops still in their little ball shape, or is it smooshed in/poopy butt?

Ive noticed that right after he pees its a little damp, yes. But other than that I’ve never really noticed.

Since I check him daily, it is always in the little ball form and usually pretty easy to get out. He isnt a fan of me touching his little bum, of course lol

Does his butt stink after he pees ? or just stink in general ?

I ‘shave’ my lionhead -i.e. I use a trimmer to trim down her fur. She hates being brushed and it tangles, and her mane is so out of control she literally can’t see. So it doesn’t hurt to trim them, BUT you must have a bunny who holds still for it, as it’s super dangerous to give them any kind of knick. They have really stretchy thin skin so a small cut can actually be a big deal. If you think your bunny would hold still and it will save you frustration you can certainly try trimming.

Jax is incredibly hyper and still getting used to me so I wouldn’t want to risk it. It doesn’t seem to be too big of a problem, it was just something I recently have noticed. I think he should be fine
