I have been wanting to get a bunny for awhile, but I found myself being super picky. I want a certain type of bunny and it has certain type of color pattern. Was anyone else like this before finding their perfect bun?

Hmm, not really. It was more of a love at first sight sort of thing. I think a lot of people will think they want this breed or that breed, but many times they fall in love with something completely different when they visit a shelter.

Nope, not at all picky – I wanted a rabbit who needed a home – it’s not about breed and color at all for me.

The last thing i wanted was a New Zealand white. We found a NZW brought it home , immediately fell in love with her. I really dont know what i would do without her. So to me now its never about the breed or color.

When I was looking for a bun I thought I knew exactly what I wanted for coloration, but ended up falling in love with the bun with the coloration I thought I didn’t want! You may think now that you know what you want, but when you meet the one, s/he will tug at your heart no matter the color/age/gender/breed/size.

I’m not picky. I just want to give a home to a poor bunny sitting in a shelter.

I knew that I wanted a up eared rabbit who was neither a dwarf nor a giant. I also didn’t want long fur, due to grooming, or rex fur, due to health issues. The kind of ‘average’ rabbit I describe also tends to have the fewest health problems, though that’s not guaranteed – health is very important to me!

I don’t think I could ever narrow my bunny lustings to just one type.

The way the hotots look like they are wearing eyeliner from the ’80s is so freaking cute, angoras are so fuzzy, lops amuse me, but uppy ears are so classically bunny, nethies fit in your hand, flemmies fill your arms, dutchs have a long history, lionheads are new and exciting. There are dwarf bunnies with tiny perfect little ears and english lops with ears that you want to wrap yourself up in.

I find it hard to imagine having my heart set on just one instead of ficklely desiring them all. Ultimately, we chose our rabbit b/c he was a good match for our family.

In a way, I was a bit picky, though most of my pickiness was just convenience (no mega-long fur, larger size, nice temperament etc). With my first rabbit, Tossu, I knew I wanted a large rabbit (but not a giant), a male, and definitely a rabbit with uppy ears as they’re more traditionally “rabbit” to me. My main concerns were size and temperament, as I wanted a rabbit large enough to be easily noticeable on the floor so we’d be less likely to step on him. A New Zealand Red ticked all the boxes, so I set out to find an NZR breeder, which I did – and that’s how I got Tossu!

With Sukka, my other rabbit, I was picky in regards to breed and gender, since I wanted a female to be Tossu’s girlfriend. I’ve wanted a French lop for years and years, so I decided to go make my dream come true and set out to find a French lop. While I was originally a little hesitant to get such a large rabbit, Tossu (who is around 4kg) seems so small to me now that a giant didn’t seem so big and scary after all. Sukka, in particular, was chosen because my boyfriend saw a picture of her and fell in love. We went to get her the very next week!
