I’ve had my rabbit for 7 months and whenever I try to pick her up, she only lets me hold her for a few seconds before she starts wildly scratching me. I don’t want her to get into that habit. How do I get her to stop?

Most rabbits hate being picked up.

So how do I get her to come to me by herself or move her from an area without her scratching me?

Lure her with treats or shake a treat bag. If you want to move her to a far place you can use her carrier. Are you carrying her in a comfortable way?

You just do it quickly and give treats during if they will take them and give them treats afterwards *and when you give treats during the holding give them when she’s not scratching you*. I have a rex that HATES being picked up but he gives me a few seconds to pick him up and put him where I need to but anything longer than that and he bites. Or you could move them using the litterbox if you want that would make them feel more comfortable.

Using the litterbox is a great idea.

Sadly, she is not litter box trained quite yet. She is not spayed for the fact that we are planning on breeding her later on.

EDIT: For some reason she doesn’t really respond to me shaking her food bag. Her hearing is fine also.

She doesn’t have to be litterbox trained to pick her up using the litterbox, you just kinda scootch her into the litterbox and then pick up the litterbox

Do what kcomstoc said. On a related note, you won’t be able to litter box train her until after she has been spayed, given her age her litter habits will soon get much worse as she matures. May I ask why you want to breed her?

For those who don’t know she is 7 months
