I am new and joined because I recently got a baby Lionhead bunny named SnuggleBug. She is 5 months old and I will be getting her spayed soon. She seems to be really happy and loves it when I pet her. Sometimes she will jump on my lap and explore a bit, but she sees wrinkles in my clothes and nibbles on them. This would be fine if she didn’t also take some skin with her. So my question is what is she doing? She doesn’t lick so i don’t know if its grooming, but if it is then is there a way to get her to stop? I love holding her in my lap but I haven’t done it as much lately because when she nibbles it really hurts.

She may just be exploring. Or it’s a form of grooming and she finds your “fur” strange.
My bunny Bam used to do this, I put him back on the floor when he did. He doesn’t do it to me anymore, but to my mother, who he loves, he jumps up onto her lap right away when she comes to visit. I always provide her with a thick terry-cloth towel to wrap around her to minimize injury to clothes and skin. If you try this, don’t use a good towel, it will get holes in it.

I’d say either exploring or attention-seeking or both. It’s just what young bunnies do. If she wants to be in your lap, then return her to the floor when she does it. Some people have had luck with squealing like a hurt bunny when their bunny nips, which let’s bunny know they are hurting you.

Some buns have a play style that involves smoothing/nibbling cloth. Others are just nibblers. Most of us have copious amount of clothes/pillows/duvets, sides of sheets etc that have been rabbit-bitten.

The trick is to make sure that you are giving her the opportunity to use her “skill” in a productive way. Coco was a “root clearer” so she viewed everything on the floor as potential root to be cleared from her warren. This included my purse, shoes, backpacks etc. I learned to keep nothing on the floor that I couldn’t bear to have tasted. To offset this, I would make puzzles for her from hemp rope, cardboard and hay tunnels. It might take her a few days to get through it and I would make another. A busy bun is not a naughty bun!
