        Hi all!

        So, I am thinking of bonding my boy, Petey, with a spayed female and I have a few questions..

        First, a few things about Petey;

        – He is approx. 4 years old.

        – He is so mellow and easy going.

        – He doesn’t really like being held, but will nuzzle my legs when I am on the couch or floor.

        – He is not really destructive.

        – He does not spray and has never been aggressive with me.

        – He is litter trained and has a good chunk of my apartment to himself when I am not home and the entire apartment when I am.

        1. I do not think he is neutered. I can still see his little bunny balls. Will this be a problem in bonding with a spayed female?

        2. Is he too old to neuter at this point? Are there complications with adult males getting neutered?

        3. Will they need to be housed separately after the initial bonding? That seems silly to me. Why get a friend if they can’t hang?

        Thanks bunny lovers! I appreciate you.

          It may be possible to bond them but I strongly recommend having him neutered. His behavior might change and he will be hormonally frustrated at best or may get aggressive. 4 is not too old to neuter but you would need to talk to your vet and have him/her assess his health and pre-anaesthetic blood work would def be a good idea.

          After his neuter, he will need several weeks for his hormones to settle down before starting the bonding process.

          Do you have a bunny in mind you want to adopt? The best bet for a successful bond is to bring him to a shelter and let him pick his own mate.

          Bonding can be stressful and time consuming for the bunny parent. You will need to house them separately until they are fully bonded. I recommend reading the Bonding Info here on Binky Bunny in the Bunny Info section.
