hello! I got a question about my rabbits health.
I fed her some celery for the first time. and the next day she is passing gas ALOT. she has normal poops. she seems to be slightly less energetic. she sits down more. her appetites actually more satisfying to me because she will actually eat hay now. im just concerned about her gas issues. is it possible for the celery to cause it? worried its really serious.

Each rabbit can be sensitive to something different. My buns are all fine with celery. I haven’t noticed anything giving them discomfort. And they each like one food over another. One of my buns can eat tiny amounts of fruit – EXCEPT grape. It makes his caecotrophs turn to cow patties. Stop giving her celery and see if her gas goes away.

Could be-it’s a new food for her I’m assuming? I would just discontinue for now, and when offering new food just give a small amount, and gradually increase. I believe celery should be cut up just to be on the safe side as those strings are really strong.

I’m glad she got rid of the gas! I give my buns celery, cut into inch-long pieces. It seems to agree with them. With any new green (or food-item of any kind, really), you should start with the tiniest piece, or the tummy can get upset. But as previous posters also have said, some buns just can’t tolerate some greens. Like my Bam, he can’t have carrot.

If your bunny gets gassy you can help her tummy by giving her a tummy-massage. This is a nice instruction-video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnuxGLa2reg

I also feel it’s good to keep some baby gas drops (simethicone) on hand, it’s bunny safe according to Medirabbit and the House Rabbit Society and I find it very helpful.
