Hi, so I’m going to be fostering small animals soon (after we finish construction in our basement), and I have a strong preference for fostering rabbits, but I had a question. We’re building a small finished bedroom in our basement (hence the construction) and are trying to decide on a flooring material for the room. It will either be epoxy with an area rug, or wall-to-wall carpeting.

I was thinking that with fostering small animals, epoxy flooring might be less hassle to clean up, but I was wondering if a bun would ever come to visit me while I was in the room if the flooring was epoxy, or if it would drive them away since it’s more slippery. Do any of you guys have experience with that?

The bunny cage itself would not be in the room, it’d be in the general basement area, but I planned to give it free range of the basement while I’m home, including the finished bedroom.

I would think you’d need something that is easy to clean thoroughly, e.g. in case you unknowingly foster an animal with mites.

My buns are all in the dining room on lino, and have several plastic boxes, each lined with newspaper, puppy training pad and a layer of hay. The buns seem happy with this, they are quite happy to stretch out on the lino, or in the boxes, also, for some strange bunny reason, Pippi likes to lie on one of the box lids, so they get left on the floor too. The boxes I use are the clear ones that are designed to store stuff under beds.
