Hi I got my female rabbit Jasmine when she was about 12/14 weeks old, we have had her about a month and a half and after she had her vaccinations, we put her in a run during the day on the grass (she’s a house rabbit). At first when we put her outside, she was pooping, however now she’s not pooping on the grass and waits until she’s inside to poop! Does anybody have a little bit of a guess why?

Maybe she doesn’t want to leave her scent around for fear of predators?

Rabbits decide where they want to go, and stick to it.

In the summer, Pippi hates peeing indoors, and used thump in the early hours to wake me up, if he needed to go. It took weeks of ignoring for him to give up on trying to train me to come to a thump. Gina hates to go in her cage, and will hold on to go until its floor time, when she can use a litter tray outside her cage.

Can you maybe try putting a slightly soiled litter tray out in her run, so she can go outside, and then if that works, leave a pile of her droppings in the same area of the run as the litter tray, but without the tray, so she gets used to going outside?

That’s funny. Lancelot won’t poop on the grass either. Even if I put a litter box outside. In fact, he doesn’t really enjoy being on the grass at all. He wants to be inside on the carpet. His favorite surface is his blue fluffy veterinary fleece mat. He is SUPER good with his litter box. But he wants it inside. He will hold his business until he is inside with his box. And it doesn’t matter where I put it. He always uses it. Guinevere, needs a large litter box. She likes to have a litter “area”. So her box is 28″x18″.

My original pair used to run inside and use their litterbox also. Lol. They only started to toilet outside when I got more rabbits and they started to pick up on their scent.
