My bunny passed away at 645 this morning. I loved this bunny so much. She was my buddy. For the last two days I had given her small amounts of kale and dandelion. Both my bunny and hamster ate the kale. Two mornings ago my hamster died, this morning my bunny died. Her name was Monty. Both hammy(hamster) and Monty were healthy. I fed them the right foods. Neither ate kale regularly as I know for rabbits they can’t eat much of this. Right before Monty passed she was wobbly. She hopped to me for comfort, laid on me, started to seizure and was dead. My question is what from the kale could’ve caused their deaths? Pesticides? Something else? I’ve been using the same batch of kale for my smoothies. They haven’t eaten kale in approx 3 months. Just trying to figure out what happened. Thanks in advance for any help or answers you may have.

I’m so sorry for your loss. So sad, to lose two pets in such a short time.

I give my bunnies kale. I don’t know if it could’ve been a pesticide that cause the death of your pets. It sounds very strange though, two pets passing like that.

Again, I’m so very sorry. Binky free Monty and may Hammy run in his Heavenly wheel alongside.

Thank you very much for your kind words. I agree, previously when I’ve given my rabbit kale there were no side effects. It wasn’t something she ate regularly as she preferred other veggies. Just not sure what happened. Thanks again.

I’m extremely sorry for your loss. 2 pets withing a short time is hard.
I’m not sure what it could have been, it might even have been something completely different. It’s very hard to say. But I will be thinking of you during this difficult time.

I’m sorry, that is so sad. There are many possible causes, and only a vet and an autopsy could really give you a definite answer. Perhaps there was something on the kale – pesticide. Perhaps bacteria. Perhaps a viral infection that was transmitted on the kale, or maybe unrelated to it. I had a wobbly bunny with E.Cunniculi. He had a seizure, and a week later was at Rainbow Bridge. EC spores are excreted through urine, and are ingested by the next animal, causing sickness. It is difficult when we don’t know what happened. Thinking of you and your pets.

Thanks for everyone’s kind work. Immediately after her death I was confused as to what could’ve happened. I was frustrated and extremely sad, still am. I miss her so much. It’s very nice to have a forum with people who understand how special rabbits are and what terrific pets they make. Before having one I never knew. Thanks to all!

I am so sorry for your loss. I own both bunnies and hammies, they both are very special animals and I know the loss of two in such a short time is hard. Sending all my love to you. ((((((Binky and Scamper free)))))

Thank you very much! I appreciate your kindness. I got a new bunny, she was to be a companion for Montey. I’m working on getting her adjusted to her new home. Glad to have a bunny in the house again. Feeling a little nervous but a least I have this great forum to turn to if I have any questions. Thanks again.

I’m very sorry for your loss!

We lost our special little dude, Buddle, in July and he was wobbly and was having seizures. It was very difficult to see and although we have suspicions as to what it could have been and we took him to an emergency vet, it’s very difficult when you don’t know for sure!

Marla and me send our love! x
