        Hello guys,
I got Winston when he was 8 weeks old from a pet store. I assumed everything was fine until he started sneezing like crazy so I took him to the vet and they are worried it is either pasteurella or just an upper respiratory infection. They put him on trimethoprim-sulfa at .1ml twice a day and he takes a probiotic but I am blanking on the name and don’t have it in front of me, it’s a yellowish paste. He has been on the meds for 2 weeks now and the sneezing has stopped but there is still some discharge.

The vet called me last night and told me he now has coccidia (results from s fecal test from 2 weeks ago). They want to put him on albon and test him for pasteurella now that the antibiotics are up and the discharge is still there. I’m just worried that the coccidia is too much for his body with the he already compromised immune system and him being only 10 weeks old

He is so active and eats so much I have to refill his hay feeder twice a day and he eats pellets and kale. He is starting to jump around and trying to escape his play pen so I’m not seeing any behavioral changes and he certainly isn’t lethargic but I’m worried that all this illness will catch up with him :/

I’m back at college so I’m having them refer me to a vet where I live now but I’m just worried. It’s my first bunny and I’m like a nervous mother who has had her first child. Please tell me I’m not alone and that he will be okay?

If he tested positive for coccidia, you need to treat that, and it’s good if you do it asap, since it’s much more likely to have a good outcome if he hasn’t yet shown symptoms (which he obviously hasn’t). Coccidosis is very hard on young buns especially. I’m glad your vet has spotted it. So get him treated for that, illness is way more likely to catch up with him and hit him very hard if you delay treatment. (It’s not a sure thing that a bunny that’s positive for coccidia ever shows symptoms, but as you say, his immune defense is already challenged by the pasteurella/upper respiratory infection, which makes him vulnerable).

I’m glad you’re giving him a probiotic since abs can be hard on a bunny tummy.
