Hi guys! I’ve been thinking about getting pet insurance for my rabbit and possibly bird too.  Anyone have pet insurance for their rabbit/exotic? How much does it cost? Do most vet clinics take insurance?

So far I’ve found VPI Pet Insurance which seems pretty good, but their website focuses on dogs and cats and doesn’t say much about their exotic pet coverage.

        Thanks!

Where do you live? I don’t think all countries have insurance available for rabbits. I am in the UK and have my two insured, what we do is we pay the bill and claim back the money from the insurance so it doesn’t matter if a vet accepts insurance or not since they never deal with the insurance company directly, they just give me a receipt and I fill in a claim form. My two are insured for around £15 a month which isn’t bad at all

As far as I’m aware, VPI is the only company that covers rabbits. According to Binky Bunny info page, it costs $12 a month. That was in 2012. It may have changed…

I’m in the US and have VPI for my three bunnies. I pay $11 per month per bun. VPI is the only one on the US for bunny insurance. They don’t pay the vet directly however. You pay the vet the submit a claim for reimbursement of covered charges. You can get a CareCredit credit card (no interest based on amount of charge and payoff period) to use at the vet and get reimbursed before you have to pay more than a month or so on the CareCredit.

I have VPI in the US. It’s $12 a month for one bun. There’s a $50 deductible. I strongly recommend it. You never know when there’ll be an emergency.
