I am leaving for college soon and plan to get a bunny. I was planning to build a bunny cage with wire grids and coroplast, but my mom wants me to get an actual cage and put an x-pen around it for easy moving. Since i will be going home during breaks. I really dont know what to do and any advice would be awesome.

Will you be in a dorm, or renting an apartment? Will you have roommates? When you come home, what space will bunny have?

Ideally, I would also recommend waiting till at least the second semester to get the bunny. This will give you time to get settled in first. Life in college is very different than life at home, it will be hard enough making that adjustment for just yourself.

This will be my second year at college. I will be living in a house and i dont have any roommates at the moment. The bunny should have its own room.

Build the C&C cage at your house, where bunny will be spending the majority of its time. The small cage with x-pen can stay at your parents house for when you and bunny come visiting on breaks.

If you don’t keep the house over the summer, breaking down then rebuilding a C&C cage is no big deal. You can just store the parts over the summer then rebuild it again the fall after that.

Not having roommates will make bunny proofing much more feasible. Wires are the biggest issue for bunny proofing, chewing is the next. Don’t leave expensive text books in bunny’s reach.
