        Hi guys!

So this morning when i went to feed my bunny, I saw two rather large clumps of fur that looked pretty condensed. When I took a closer look at them, I saw that on the bottom, there was brown fur that looked kind of stringy. I have a Dutch rabbit, and on his hips/side of his butt he has brown fur, but I’m not sure if that is the case here. He has been shedding like crazy and it takes me forever to brush him. It doesn’t look like poop on the fur up close, but I’m not really sure what to think of at this point. I’m off to brush him some more and see where the hair came from.

Oh it looks a bit wet. Make sure hes not ripping out fur first? Midnight (my oldest) did that for a while when we got her, and actually began choking on it. If hes not ripping out fur, its possible that hes getting fur stuck in his mouth when he cleans himself. So check for bald spots, and, if you find none, then gatta get rid of that shedding fur.

If you want a different way of helping de-shed the fluff ball, try a lint roller (I’m lazy so just going to quote it lol) I posted it on another forum post and it seemed to help those who tried it

My way may be a little strange, but, its the only way that I can get either of my buns to sit still for it. Ive tried trimming as well, never got to shaving. Both of mine are dwarfs and have really fine fur so the brushes never really do help. I actually get a lint roll (buy the cheap ones. what you get is what you pay for. Cheaper always seem less sticky, which, is good for a delicate bunny!). Ill sit them on my lap, gently rub it across their fur (I’m assuming they think I’m just petting them) and seems to help a lot with the shedding. My little hyper buns are actually pretty calm when I do this. I usually use 2 sheets, do it once a day for 2 or 3 days right as its getting to that time of year, and it usually keeps them pretty clean from flying fur for a few weeks! I may end up doing it two or three times during the end of spring, all summer, and early fall months, but its definitely worth it and they don’t seem to mind it.

Thank you for your advice! I checked on his butt and I found some more clumps of fur that apparently I could not reach and it has some brown fur on it also so I’m trying to find a way I can get to his butt without him moving . I will definitely try the lint roller idea, thank you for that, because it seems like a much easier and better alternative. I’m gonna recheck for bald spots today and will keep yo posted on that.

It looks kinda wet from the photos, could it be some urine on a tuft of fur that came out from shedding? I’m not sure. I have an angora rabbit and if she loses a chunk of fur (or it’s just really loose and gets in her bum) and she pees on it it looks kinda like that.
              Good luck!

If there is a lot of unformed poop stuck in the fur it could be a sign of a health problem. It could be loose stools, or if he’s obese he might have trouble reaching his cecals.

                  hi guys!

well i used the lint roller and it was AMAZING! he seemed a little bothered by it so i put my hand around the roller a few times to make it less sticky. I don’t remember if the tuft of fur was wet when I found it, as we had been on vacation for a week and I don’t know if it dried out or not but I’m gonna lessen the amount of pellets he gets a little in case its pee or poop stuck on the fur. I haven’t been able to check if there are clumps of fur or not yet because I have been really busy with school starting in a few days but tomorrow I’m going to check and get all the shedding fur from his butt and will see if there are any other hairs that look like that one.
