Hey guys! Tonight I left belle running around with blossom tied up in her cage and a barrier blocking her off – I left my room for about half an hour to forty minutes and when I came back in both buns were out in the middle of the floor (barrier still in tact). My first (and probably wrong) instinct was to pick up belle so neither bun could continue fighting – but when I did she screamed ? I’ve never heard her scream before I’m so heartbroken! I sat on the bed with her and she was buried right into my arms and panting really fast and loud. I took away the barrier and waited for blossom – who is normal – to run back into her pen. When she did I carried belle to hers and put her in there and she immediately flopped out panting. She took a couple of steps and flopped over after as though she couldn’t walk very well but I think it was being over stressed. I went to fill her water bottle and when I came back in she was on her step and hopped back up onto the top shelf so I’m pretty sure she’s walking fine but again she just flopped out once she was up there. I put food in and she hopped over to it but then just lay down beside it. She’s taken a little nibble since but then lay down again. I’ve turned the big lights off and am not moving around too much – is there anything else I can do to help her calm down? I’m so scared for her I don’t know what to do. I’m worried she’ll get over stressed. I feel so terrible.

Ps: when I was holding belle I checked her ears, had a quick look at her nose and back and couldn’t see any bites or anything like that. I didn’t want to poke around her too much but she seems okay in terms of things like that. I’ve not really had a proper look at blossom up close but she is acting completely normal not even stressed so I don’t think they hurt each other like that. I think If anything me picking her up when she was already frightened is what made her scream and made her so stressed out ????

If Belle was extremely focused on Blossom she may not have seen or heard you coming and when you picked her up she thought she was being attacked. As long as she is eating, drinking and pooping she should be ok. Just keep an eye on her.

Thanks for the reply – I can’t see her because of the lighting but I have heard her eat a few times – normally she eats all in one go but I’m glad she’s eating some. Hopefully she calms down soon.

You can use a blow dryer on low and ‘cool’ to look for injuries-their fur is so thick it’s almost impossible to see little nicks but the hair dryer will move the fur and works really well.

I think I would have dropped her, if it was me and she screamed! I was shrieked at by Rupert once and I’ll never forget it. I agree completely with Roberta-I bet she was so focused on Blossom and all of sudden in the air and freaked right out.

Nothing special to calm her, just let her have time in her home with no interruptions and she’ll settle. Stick to your routine whatever it is.
