So my husband called me today saying he was probably able to transfer to a bigger office in another state and asked me my concerns about moving. I said I didn’t want to loose any of my pets. We currently own our home. I know we will have to rent at least for a little while. We have 2 cats,2 dogs and of course the 2 rabbits.  So do any of you rent with multiple pets and how hard was it to find a place with several animals?

The last time we moved we only had 2 cats and 1 dog and we could only find one place that would let us have our pets and the deposit was around $800 but they gave us a discount when my husband said I would have to give up the pets. I started crying in the rental office and that’s when I got the discount. I am not the type of person that can give up their pets because of a move or any reason. They are my babies.

I spent some time this morning on Realtor.com. I figured its a big city my husband wants to move to so I figured I would look at rentals on the site and I found a couple of houses for rent that said they took most pets and one rental agency that said they accept pets with a $300 deposit and floors have to be professionally cleaned and sprayed for fleas when leaving. So I feel a bit relieved.

I was gonna say, if it’s a decent-sized city, it shouldn’t be an issue. In our little town, it’s a PAIN to rent somewhere with pets, but when we lived in Burlington, VT it wasn’t too hard to find one, though several did require an additional deposit AND higher rent (no idea why). And I got my pet/security deposit back on both rentals we had up there, since my animals weren’t slobs, lol.

I know it’s sorta different here to there Sindriona, but when I rented once with the dog’s (4! Good grief! Lol!) they did allow them with no extra deposit – it was new estate so I guess they were super keen to get them rented out? Anyhow, I getcha! My pets are like my babies, l couldn’t move without them. But like you and most people, we look after our homes and our pets so it’s not a problem. But I do get the odd feral moving in and doing the wrong thing making it hard for all of us. When I moved out, like most good people I had the carpet cleaned and I reckon I left the place cleaner than when I moved in, ha ha ha!

Gosh! Are you ok with the move Sindriona? I’m a little worried…. will you still be close to family? I hope it’s ok to say here (I still can’t PM) that I think of you and everyone all the time…..

PS – I am not sure if this is appropriate to say this here (but I realised something the other day….), if you PM me I can see it in my email – maybe PM me your email address? If this is wrong, please do NOT hesitate to delete this FL’s. I’m just trying desperately to keep in touch with a member or ‘3’. Again my apologies if this in inappropriate.

Andi, there’s no rule against members sharing personal email-addresses, Insta handles or Facebook accounts. Just don’t put that info on on the forums if it has your full name in it! (For members under 18, no part of a real name must be displayed on the forums.)

Insta handles we’ve seen a lot of lately, personal e-mails I personally think is best to share via PMs, just as a safety measure.

Sindriona, I do feel for you. We don’t have those types of rules here (yet). I hope you’ll find a place where you + pets are wellcome. To have to give your pets up would be just horrendous.

Short term apartment rentals may be okay with animals, private landlords are usually your best bet. I think you can sort Craigslist rentals by pet friendly or not. We are successfully renting with a rabbit, tortoise, two lizards and three prairie dogs but our landlord is someone I knew before we rented from him.

Andi JR will give you my email address since you have problems with PMs. I have had problems with BB on and off myself but apparently not as bad as you have been having. I can imagine that is annoying at times.

As for the move things are up in the air atm. Its a wait and see situation. my husband said there was 2 jobs open at the main office which is about 3 and half hours away so its not that bad. It will be a doable drive with all our pets. The problem is they might want my husband to stay at the current location because no one here knows how to do his job. If we do stay we are still planning to move to a town closer or to another job all together. My husband is stressed because he is the only one at his current location that knows how to do the job at its really getting to him.

It will be weird to move away from my son, but its not that bad of a drive so we can visit still. Right now it takes us 3 to 3 and half hours to get to our family’s homes. We are use to drives like that. Our family is pretty supportive about the move either way.

We are both excited at the prospect of moving but its also kind of scary and of course stressful trying to figure out things. One positive thing is they are more than likely going to give us time to sell our home before going to the new job. We had to sell our last house in a hurry to get to this job and that was really stressful.

Thanks everyone for your imput. Hopefully things work out and we wont even have to rent.
