My bunny, Mochi, thinks he’s a cat. He poops and pees in and around our cat litter box despite having his own home-base with more bunny-appropriate potty places (hay and paper litter). I’ve read how bad cat litter is for curious buns and am afraid he’ll get sick.

Considered a cat door to the cat room, but the internet showed me bunnies using cat doors.
Trying to think of a way to make that room cat-but not bunny-accessible.

        Anyone have any ideas?

Buns tend to do their business I the same place not the object. Have you tried moving the cats litter box and putting the buns there?

I’ve seen pictures of lot of duel cat/bun owners putting the litter box a little higher up like on a cat castle or shelf. As long as your cat doesn’t kick it too much.

Worse case scenario you just need to purchase NON CLUMPING cat litter. Many a rabbit owner uses cat litter for their own bunny but again it needs to be non clumping. Yesterday’s News makes a paper litter for cats that’s great for bunnies too!

Does your cat wear a collar? They make pet doors with magnetic locks so that only the pet with the key on its collar can enter it.

If you cant really find ideas just switch your cat to bunny safe cat litter.
