        Hi guys.
I’m new to this site. Googled my bunnies issues and two separate answers from this site came up but didn’t exactly match with his issue…
I have a dwarf indoor only bunny who’s 8 years old. I noticed a few months ago that he had VERY tiny amount of flakes on his ears. This was during the time he was molting. They are still there… I haven’t taken him to the vet for a list of reasons, but I think we will have a vet come to us soon.
There are still the same amount. There’s no gunk in his ears, and the flakes are just on the outside of his ear. If I rub the tip of his ear a tiny bit sometimes a piece of fur will come off… I don’t do this on purpose. I’m just very observant.
He is fine otherwise. His fur has no dry spots or anything, no fur missing…
I will post a photo tomorrow.
Just wondering if it’s possible that there’s such thing as ear dandruff in bunnies…
Also if this is “walking dandruff” can it spread to my cats as one of them cleans him a lot.
        Thanks

From your description it sounds like fur mites, cheyletiella parasitovorax, also known as walking dandruff, as you say.
It’s very easily treated if you can get Revolution (selamectin). In most countries except Australia this medicine is prescription only, so you need a vet to prescribe it for you.
All animals in the household should be treated since these mites can live on cats and dogs too.

Whatever you choose to do, do NOT treat your rabbit with fipronil (Frontline, Effipro and several other brands.) It’s DEADLY to rabbits. You shouldn’t even treat your cat with fipronil since your cat and your rabbit are in such close contact, which btw sounds lovely.

My Olivia gets dry little flakes on her ears sometimes. I brought her to the vet and it’s not mites. However, the only way to know for sure if it’s mites or dry skin is to have a vet check it under a scope.
