I started working at a pet store and today a bunny is sick.

Since I’ve been there only 2 weeks, I know 2 bunnies sold have died.

They think wet tail but I found mucoid enteritis.  Apparently when someone picked it up today mucous just came out.

I forget the medicine they had in the water, it may have been the neomycin sulfate.

I don’t work tomorrow but I’m worried about the bunny.  I think I should go give it a syringe with the medicine.

Can anyone help?  i don’t want it to die, I’m not like most people who just have the attitude of oh well.  I wish I would have asked to bring it home and care for it here.

I assume these rabbits are young. There’s a likelihood that they are infected with coccidia, a parasite that is very common and affects young rabbits particularly bad. Or it may be mucoid enteritis due to overgrowth of bacteria.

The rabbit needs to be seen by a vet. Young animals get dehydrated quickly.

The store probably shouldn’t buy more rabbits from that breeder. Thoroughly clean all cages in the store where rabbits have been, change to dry bedding etc.

          This is very sad.

oh no. Yes, I know about coccidia – never thought of it. You are probably right now that you mention it.

It breaks my heart, the first bunny who came back dead I about cried. I had talked a lot to the woman who bought her and I nearly cried. She was crying and it was awful. It about made me quit.

I’m going to call the manager since I’m not working today. they only use vinegar water to clean – is this going to work? She was in with a sweet mini-rex and I’m worried about her too.
