We got my bunny last week & for the first few days he was fine and pooping normally, but now his privates are starting to smell real bad and he isn’t cleaning himself down there. We contacted the store we got him from and they said to take him off his nuggets and feed him just Timothy hay and water so we have but the smell hasn’t cleared up and his poo is solid but it has a liquid to it. His stomach isn’t firm at all and he seems to be eating and drinking fine. Also he seems to be sleeping a lot lately. FYI he is 15 weeks old and is a dwarf lop. I really don’t know what this is or what to do? HELP!

I think you should take him to a vet and get it checked out. It’s possibly hormonal which means you will need to look at finding a good rabbit vet anyway and a base health check is always a good thing. If it is an infection of some kind he might need antibiotics.

Yes, vet. You might be looking at coccidia or bacterial overgrowth in the gut.

This happened to our 13-week-old French lop girl. We took her off pellets/fresh food immediately, waited a week or so (monitoring her health closely), and though her symptoms got better her poops were still somewhat abnormal. We took her to the vet then, who gave us a prescription for coccidia meds for both our bunnies. The vet said it was likely to just have been stomach upset caused by her new surroundings/new hay/(accidental) change in diet, but because the coccidia meds are quite safe she gave them to us to be on the safe side.

I would recommend a vet visit as well. It could just be some stomach trouble due to stress/diet change, and the hay-water diet is a good idea as well, but a vet visit would give you some peace of mind, at the very least.
