My poor camera is going out… Its been 3 years and its a point and shoot so its done well.

My boyfriend and I have agreed its time for an upgrade for me. I am looking at camera’s DSLR’s, compacts, anything thats an upgrade from a point and shoot. but I need shutter speed and zoom . I take a lot of pictures of my fish, my bunnies … heck animals overall. Built in flash is important to me, I just want that option, especially for pictures around the house.

Does anyone have a recommendation? Please post pictures you have taken with it.

Right now at the top of my list is the rebel t5

This is what I have now http://http//www.amazon.com/Canon-P…canon+elph

Hey I wish I had seen this sooner.  I have  Canon Rebel T3i.  I also have a canon power shot. I love them both.  I wouldn’t trade either for the world.  I feel like your average everyday camera user (who don’t know about aperture, shutter speed, ISO)  Probably doesn’t need a DSLR, and would be happy with one of the newer style digital cameras that does have a lens that zooms.   That being said for people who are really getting into it for the first time Canon tend to be a little user friendly and easier to take right out of the box and use.  A nikon usually has more advance settings that require a little more camera knowledge.   I am having difficulty posting pictures from my camera as the file size is huge!

(This last photo has had some retouching)

Photography is my hobby … So even though I really don’t know right now I want to learn. Plus I haven’t been able to find anything that matches a DSLR’s image quality.

I am looking at the T5. I have a 3 year old powershot 100hs … Which I almost never use in auto mode since I like having a little more control ( Not that anything is wrong with auto)

Well then all the pictures i’ve posted should be similar to what you would get with the T5 their picture taking capabilities are similar and I shot these all with the standard lens. I love the t3i because of the swivel screen

unfortunately when they released the t5 and t5i they discontinued the t3 and t3i … thats what I was originally looking at.

Could you post pictures from your powershot? I am curious, those also seem pretty nice. its just hard finding cameras with a viewfinder these days.

                  Yes!

All these are from my power shot.  This camera just sits in my purse and gets used incidentally so the pictures aren’t always a photography type deal where I will take my T3i out with the purpose of taking pictures.  Also these photos are not the original size the camera produces.

yeah I wish You could just post links to photobucket or something … The size limits for this site are odd.

                    Thanks for the help

I had the Canon 1100D which is the Australian version of the T3. If you want to shoot animals with it, and you want some action shot I will say they aren’t great for that as their auto focus and focal points arent really up to scratch in that area. Other than that they are actually a cool little camera, good for first timers to learn the basics.
This is a link to an album of photos I took with my 1100D just before I upgraded to my 7DMark2.

I hope it isn’t against the rules to post a link to my FB.

I was considering a dslr, but I am thinking I should go for a bridge camera for now

I don’t know where you are located but a lot of craigslist offerings for DSLR’s here. Also you can try Bestbuy’s open box cameras

The price was actually not my main concern … I just don’t feel ready for one …

I believe it is the a4000. Its not a “bridge” camera. Some of the powershots like mine are point and shoot cameras.
