Trying to,figure out where to put the litter box where I can get it easily and where my bunny will go in it when she eats. Where I have it now it’s not working.

Where do you have it at? Is it in a cage? Rabbits usually like corners. I would try a corner that is easy for you to get to.

Figure out which corner you bunny prefers -they usually show a preference. Then scoop some of the poop that they did in that corner into the litter box and place in that corner. Add hay Hopefully there is room for the box wherever your bunny has shown a preference to go.

The size if the litter box often helps. They tend to favour bigger ones. Also, keep the rest of the habitat bedding-free if you haven’t already. Rabbits tend to just use bedding to toilet on instead of going in the box. They don’t need bedding material indoors.

This worked for me. Start with a small area. Find where he/she likes to do their business. Place the litter box in that area, with some pieces of poop. After a week of good litter habits increase the area.

I had to place 3 litter boxes in corners, and let her pick. Because she was picking 2 spots and ignoring her box. Once I placed 3 boxes, she picked a favorite, and a backup. Gradually I was able to remove the backup leaving her with just her preferred. Then she started peeing outside of it. So I figured she liked to pee on the fleece where it was a boundary. I replaced a 1-foot width of fleece with a towel, and gave her a really large litterbox. That solved it. Her litter box is now a 7 gallon cement mixing tub from the hardware store. She enjoys it. IT is big enough for her food bowl, about a third of it gets pooped on, and the other half of it – she keeps clean and just hangs out and chills in. Her litter box is about 29″long, 18″ wide.

Congrats on litter training success. Persistence paid off and I love the idea of the cement mixing tub! I am absolutely copying that.

Does she knock the tub over or dig out the poop?

Not at all. The tub is really too flat to be knocked over. It’s 28 inches long, and 18 inches wide. And about 7 inches tall. So it can’t be knocked over. If 7 inches is too high, get some strong scissors or tin snips, and cut a lower lip. I’ve cut up some large Tupperware containers. I like the cement mixing tub because it cost $8 at Lowes. But any large Tupperware would work too – they just cost more than $8. A dollar store would have some good options too. My buns have not shown a preference to the height. So I haven’t cut this one down. It’s the litterbox bedding that they are draws them, the corner placement, and the containment. Not necessarily the height. My buns don’t dig the pop out… If yours does, Then I wouldn’t cut the lip down. Perhaps experiment with a few different types of boxes. Find some cheapies at a dollar store that are tall, and then cut out a door. Maybe use a cheap storage bin and cut an access hole? That will keep the flying poop in! I used a storage bin while my Guin stayed outside in the bird aviary. I dug a large hole in the ground, buried the storage box, and laid a corrugated tunnel for access. I had meant it for a den to get out of the summer heat (geothermal cooling) but she thought it made a better litter box.
