Don’t let the title confuse you, this is not abput a bunny named Bugs

Lately I’ve been finding quite a few bugs in mine & the bunnies’ room. At first I was finding & killing a random sugar ant here or there just about every day. Now it’s been 1 big ant every day (the ones with the black butts) & today a black spider was added to that. I don’t know where they’re coming from!

I need to debug my room somehow, but I know those chemicals are bad for them. How long will they need to stay out of tye room for if I treat my room?

I’m gonna be building a new bed this weekend so I’ll have to move the bunnies somewhere anyway. Will 24 hours out of the room be ok? Or should I keep them out longer?

I dont know too much about pest control products but there is and ant one that contains fipronil. Avoid that one big time! I *think* pyrethrin products are ok??
What are you planning to use?

My mom got me this stuff today. It comes with small circles you’re supposed to place down wherever you want it & then you squeeze a drop out. Supposed to attract the ants. Anyone know if this is by CloudScout”> safe as long as I keep it up & away from the bunnies?

I tried to find info on borax and rabbits, and it’s not good for them, they musn’t eat it or get it on skin or eyes. It seems to be “somewhat safe” and not at all as toxic as fipronil. Seeing that the bait is sugar, the bunnies could be enticed to eat the stuff. Could you place it out of reach from the rabbits? It seems ants are drawn to it, so they’d change their paths to get to it. It wouldn’t have toxic fumes, direct contact would be needed for it to have a toxic effect on the rabbits. The harmful effect seems mostly to have to do with reproduction.

Permethrin is not totally bunny safe but still a huge lot better than fipronil. Fipronil must be avoided at all costs in conjunction with bunnies.

For just a few ants just finding and removing the food source is the simplest, safest, and most effective way to deal with them. I would look for a forgotten piece of fruit or carrot.

The spider is there to help get rid of the ants.

I’m going to guess that liquid contains more than just borax. If you really want to use something, you could just use plain old borax or diotomeaceous earth.

Common maize or corn starch will bugger the little sods up too. Sprinkle it as a barrier.

You can also use mint and sage, fresh leaves and flowers repels ants. Planting it in the garden will reduce the general population.

I had ants in my kitchen not long ago. After some time I found the food-source: a forgotten bag of Jerusalem artichokes on the balcony. Once I got rid of that, no more ants.

I wouldn’t use any chemicals near bunnies (or other pets). I had looked up some natural ant repellents earlier this summer and found quite a few links with lists of natural stuff you can use. Just google Natural Ant Repellent or something. The only ones I remember are corn starch and cinnamon.

Diatomaceous earth is completely harmless for mammals but deadly for insects. Just make sure it is pure diatomaceous earth and doesn’t have any added chemicals. Also, do not use it directly on your rabbit.

I’ve used diatomaceous earth before, I actually still have some! I did go ahead & use some of those drops, they worked well from what I could tell but I also just found the hole where the ants are getting in from. Sealed it right up! Might still leave some of the drops out just in case there’s a few lingering

Hopefully that’ll sort it out. They can be persistent! I used to get then come down from the ceiling.

I’ve use a home made version if those drops. Mixing borax with fine sugar and setting in a dish. I’ll sometimes make it a liquid. This was in areas the bunnies couldn’t access. You could use that product while you have them out of the room for the bed building project if the ants return. Just throw out what you put it in after before the buns come back. I just used empty bottle caps.
