My rabbit is 20 weeks now and has never pooped out of his cage since he was 10 weeks and it was only about 2 droppings by accident. Since Saturday he has started doing about 10 at a time and always one the pillow on the couch… is this a territorial thing? I feel like he is doing it deliberately. Has anyone got any ideas of what I can do to try and stop this?

        Thanks,

        Rachael

It does sound like poop-marking, which is consistent with his age. It’s about getting sexually mature. There is very little to do about it except to get him neutered. That, on the other hand, often works for this type of problem.

He is doing it deliberately in one sense: It is very important for a sexually mature bunny to mark his territory as his. But it’s not deliberate in the sense that he actually chooses to do it (out of spite etc), it is a sexually motivated behavior, an urge.

Thanks for your reply, that is very interesting and good to know. I am definitely looking into getting him neutered. Rachael & Hoppy xx

My rabbit was about 2.5 yo when I got him neutered. It totally fixed any marking he did. Which he had started after I came home from a friend’s smelling like another rabbit. lol!
