So I walked to my rabbits cage today and he had a panic attack and started running in to the walls uncontrolably. He cut his nose (surface cut) and his toe-nail which I treated and it stopped bleeding. His eye was cut as well in the corner on the pinkish-white part and I don’t know if he needs vet attention. He did not go into shock as far as I can tell, he was responsive and he has begun to eat and drink again, though he seems tired after the ordeal.

        This is his eye:

        Please help, thank you.

I would most certainly take him to a vet. He could have scratched his eye. Not to scare you, but he may seem fine but in a few hours things could go down hill. I would take him to a vet, they may prescribe him with antibiotics or some sort of eye gel to help his eye heal.

I would definitely agree with taking him to see a vet!

              Thanks for the replies everyone.

I have a vet appointment for him tomorrow, however the blood in his eye cleared, though the tear duct areas still look irritated. We called the vet and they didn’t seem to think the issue was that immedieate, but if they saw him they may give eye drops. Do you think I should still go through with the vet appointment?

Yes, Eye drops will sooth it and help prevent any infection.

POOR BABY!! my bun suffers from panic attacks as well and she has also cut her eye and her toenail. Luckily, it cleared up after a couple of hours. Does anyone know what to do to prevent said attacks???

Poor little guy. Yes, definitely see through the vet appointment. Better safe than sorry, especially to prevent the case of infection. We don’t want anything to happen to his sight either.

Yup definitely go for the appointment! Eye injuries can be successfully treated but if left untreated could be permanent.

As an aside-does your rabbit live outside? It looks like it from the picture-maybe something has been bothering him, hence the panic attack?

I think the best way to prevent rabbits from having those panic attacks is to get them well-used to the daily goings-on of their human companions. Once they realize that someone opening a door quickly or walking out from behind a corner unexpectedly doesn’t spell out their doom, the rabbits will calm down and stop flitting about as much. Essentially, being more in contact with your rabbit will help! A rabbit at ease with its environment won’t be getting panicked as often.

In the meanwhile, you can try to cut down on any surprises that you can prevent. Talk as you round the corner into the room your bunny lives in, so she knows you’re coming. Try to close doors quietly. Don’t make unexpected and sudden movements towards your bunny… etc! Cut down on the activities that cause your rabbit to panic, if you can. Make their environment feel safe for them.
