        Hey all,

A bit concerned about fly strike this summer. Noticed a good amount of house flies in the bunny room today. Maybe 10-15 maximum. I killed a bunch, set up a fly trap where the girls can’t get to it, and cleaned out every cage and litter box. Should I be concerned?

If they are just house flies, then I wouldn’t worry. Plus it sounds like you’re keeping everything clean.

Just check their bottoms to make sure they have no stuck poop or anything to attract the flies. Most buns won’t and everyone has a few flies in the house every now and then.

They sell a glue trap that has a little light inside of it, so you can turn it on at night and the flies flock to the light. You can also bait it with honey like a traditional glue trap. We get house flies and these little gnat like things (not fruit flies, they aren’t attracted to fruit…) during summer due to all the farms around us. They flock to the doors and fly in when they are opened. The glow trap was put out a couple of days ago. It’s already got 30-40 bugs on it. Yuck. The buns stay clean though, so the bugs leave them alone.

Stickerbunny — where did you find the lighted traps?
