My Mummy is going to hospital soon for an operation, but Mummy’s carer will have to feed me for a couple of days, he does feed me through the bars, but he is scared when I go out of my cage to play and when Mummy opens my door to give me my food and water, does anyone know what we can do because no one else can help, Mummy did suggest putting my food into a funnel through the bars, same for my water, but anything goes in my cage through the bars I attack it.

        Thank you From Olly.

I think a funnel may be a good idea for pellets, hay can be put in a hay-rack outside the cage so Olly can pull hay into the cage through the bars. Veggies would have to be delivired in some such way that if Olly attacks it, it’s only the veggies that get hurt, not the person delivering them. Maybe you and the carer could practice before you go away? It’s normal for bunnies to defend their cages in this way, but it’s of course impractical in situations like this.

If you don’t have a hayrack that can be attached to the outside of the cage you could perhaps get one now so Olly can start practicing using it. If he normally gets his water in a bowl you could also get him a water bottle as a back-up since bunnies are prone to turning their water bowl over or jumping in it and things like that.

I hope everything goes well and I wish you a speedy recovery!

How do we feel about water bottles? B/c hanging a water bottle seems much easier than trying to funnel water into a bowl that may have been moved through bars.
