        Hi Everyone,

There are still many campaigns running here petitioning the Australian government to allow domestic rabbits to be vaccinated against myxomatosis.

Many of you have probably seen the online petitions circulating around from time to time.

There is now a PAPER petition which is required to be able to formally lodge this in parliament.

Only Australians can sign this, including Australians abroad. So if you know any Aussies that would support the cause, please pass this info on.

Non-Australians can sign the online petition. Australians can sign both, the paper petition being the most important.

There is a group called Rabbit Aid International heading this.

You can read more about them on their Facebook page: http://facebook.com/rabbitaidinternational

This is a post from a few days ago that clarify some things to ensure submissions will be valid.

We have been receiving lots of queries regarding the online petition and the paper petition signatures and if Australians are required to sign both?

The answer is yes, Australians need to sign both the online and the paper petition to give the best chance of your voice and the bunnies voice to be heard by the government.

The second question we have been getting is “When will the petition be lodged?”

This will be dependent on the amount of signatures we get for Marjorie and the speed of the signed petitions being returned to her PO Box. The faster the originals are returned to her; the faster they can be collated. Once an appropriate amount is reached, the petition will then be lodged with the parliament

The 3rd question has been “Who will lodge the petition?”

The person lodging the petition is Marjorie Prettyman in NSW. All completed forms are going to her PO Box in NSW for counting.

The last question has been “Can we write anything on the petition paper? ”

The answer is no.. any change on the petition sheet itself after signing will invalidate that sheet with the Parliament . Please ensure that there is only names and signatures on the petition sheet. Also please make sure that when printing that your printer does not print any header or footer

        ~Rabbit Aid International

Online petition can be found on the Facebook page. Message the page for copy of the Paper petition (Aussies only). PM me if you have trouble finding these.

Thank you if you read this far! And thank you for your support!!

Basically because of the “wild” population that’s is a national pest Lee.

The myx vaccine is a live vaccine. So contains altered version of the actual virus. There’s a belief that the immunity could be spread the same way the disease is spread. ie. via biting insects or direct contact of diseased rabbit to another.

The use of the myxi virus is still used to try cull the feral /wild rabbits. So they think there is a risk immunity could spread from vaccinated rabbits to the pest population.

But thing is, the wild rabbits gained natural immunity! So the govt kept releasing mutated versions of myxi. But seems to never have gained the upper hand.
IMO, this form of biological control is not only cruel, but ineffective.
