Hi everyone hoping someone can help me as I am a fairly new rabbit owner!!
I recently rescued a 2yr old rabbit, his (new) name is Mr Wubbles (previous owner didnt even know he was a he after 2 years!!) he had his vaccination a few weeks ago and was just neutered over a week ago and i have been to see him this morning and noticed a swelling on his eyelid, i did some research but now i am scared he may have myxomatosis?? I’ve taken some pics also of his other eye which looks to be totally normal for comparison

It doesn’t look infected, but if it becomes worse, with more swelling or redness, any kind of discharge etc, you should contact a vet.

Was he vaccinated against myxo? If it were weeks ago, the vaccine would have “kicked in” by now, and if a vaccinated rabbit contracts myxo the disease is not at all as lethal as it is to an unvaccinated bunny.

One of my bunnies had a reaction to the vaccine, he got a sore on one eyelid and sores in both his ears a week after the shot. I cleaned his sores twice a day with saline and used antibiotic ointment on them (bunny safe) and it healed in about 3 weeks.

You could try rinsing his eye with single use saline of this type: http://shop.gohcl.com/default.aspx?page=item+detail&itemcode=16085

That doesn’t look to bad. Where are you located in the world, is myxo an issue ?

I believe some rabbits can get mild symptoms of myxi after the vaccine. Is that what he was vaccinated against?
Do you know if the previous owner kept up with vaccinations?

I’d call your clinic and let them know what you are seeing and if the time frame is right for seeing a reaction.
