Hi, I am new to the forum so not sure were I should post this so thought I would post it here.

Well for the past month or so I have seen this rabbit in my neighborhood, and don’t know anything about rabbits so I thought I would come on here and post this to see if someone can tell me what kind of rabbit it is? If it is wild or someones pet? I only seem to see this rabbit at night and in the same place. I picked it up once and that was it because I am not sure if it was going to bite me or what. I think it is wild but not sure. I bought some rabbit feed to feed him and he seems to eat it. I see him last night digging some holes and laying around out in the neighbors yard. I don’t think anyone owns this rabbit but would like to maybe take him home, just don’t want to see him get eating or ran over.

Well for some reason it not let me upload a picture so I have to upload it later.

I would think if its letting you pick it up then surely it has to be someone’s pet. Even most pet rabbits don’t like being picked up because they are prey animals, so I highly doubt that a wild one would let you get within five feet of it. Perhaps someones pet has escaped? What does the rabbit look like? What colour is it?

I checked your uploads, it doesn’t appear to have gone through at all. Is the picture too large? You can try scaling it down in Paint or something and then upload it.

Hi, ok I saw him tonight, I got some more photos of it, I try to upload them now. I want to try and give it something to drink, but does a rabbit just drink out of a bowl like a dog or no? I had to resize the photos

I think that rabbit was once someones pet and they just did not want it anymore so let it go. It is white with brown and some black. I think if someone was looking for it they would have put a sign up by the mailbox on the board where all the rest of the peoples put info at. This rabbit sure is cute, I wonder what kind it is and if it is a male or female.

What a beautiful bunny! Definitely NOT a wild bunny. Looks like a mini lop with some harlequin pattern genes mixed in there. Might be a girl since there is a prominent dewlap. Are you able to catch him/her and bring her inside? This bunny should not be running around outside like that.

And no, wild bunnies generally do not drink from standing water. They can if they are thirsty, but they get a lot of their moisture from the plants they eat. This bunny is probably familiar with what a bowl is and would drink from it if thirsty.

No I cannot bring the rabbit inside as we have dogs. A lady from my work wants to take it so I just have to wait till she says she can come and get it and then try and capture it.

I hope someone catches this little bun soon. There are so many dangers outside. Would your local SPCA be able to help?

That bunny needs to be rescued as soon as possible, before the inevitable happens to it. Besides all the predators and cars and people who may want to use it as target practice (one of the recent rabbits we took in at a Sanctuary where I volunteer has BBs embedded in her shoulder) the bunny is very likely going to pick up worms from eating vegetation that other animals have gone to the bathroom on. If your friend truly wants this rabbit, and hopefully knows how to care for them, she should come now and help you rescue it. Since the rabbit has already let you pick it up, it should be an easy rescue. Just in case you need to coax it to you, you can have an apple or banana slice to entice it or some parsley or cilantro. Be sure that you have a carrier at hand and get the rabbit in right away. Most rabbits do not like to be held and they will struggle, trying to get away. They can injure themselves in the process or they might run away, and not let you get them again.

You can always catch it and keep it separate from your dogs until you can take it to a shelter or take it to the woman you work with that wants it. I hope it gets caught soon.

Well I went to feed the rabbit tonight, and happen to meet the owner of it. Its a lady, she said the rabbits name is Bun Bun, and that he does not like being in a cage and like to be free. She said the rabbit lives in her back yard and lets it run in the neighborhood. So I guess I cannot take him.

What? I’m sorry, but it sounds like she is lying to you. She probably doesn’t want the rabbit anymore, so she just let it go. She just doesn’t want anyone to think she is a neglectful owner. If that is the case, then report her to animal welfare or whatever organization you have where you are.

If she is letting it run free she won’t be surprised when it disappears. If she asks you say you saw a fox or dog in the area or you saw it hop into the woods with a wild bunny.

I would still do what Roberta or LBJ says and report it or take it. A pet rabbit shouldn’t be running or hopping free like that. Its just a matter of time for that little bunny to get snatched up by a predator. She is definitely not a responsible rabbit owner or pet owner for that matter. I am praying that that poor bunny gets some help.

I feel weird saying you should take it I would suggest calling animal welfare. Please at least do that. where I live I know its unlawful to let your pet rabbit to run around free without it being confined. Let us know what happens.

Yes I totally agree with you guys about the rabbit. That lady who owns it does not seem like she cares for it at all, especially if she is just going to let it run around the neighborhood. I have a small carrier and am going to capture him tonight and let that lady from my work take him. She already has a pet rabbit and am sure she will take good care of this one. I am hoping this will be an easy rescue, and I can get him in the carrier ok.

Anyone who lets a pet rabbit run free in the neighborhood is irresponsible and is putting the rabbit in serious danger. Please save this bunny!

Well I tried to rescue him but then some guy came out of his house and told me don’t put him in that cage. So I let the rabbit go.

I would definitely call animal control then. Its really good of you to try to help this bunny out.

How awful. Def call animal control. If that bun continues to be free roam outside, it’s extremely likely he will die. I’m so sad. I hope they can help.

If he roams outside an animal could grab him, or he could eat a poisonous plant or something put out by pest control, there is also cars about.

Please take that bunny! They aren’t meant to be outside creatures when alone outside of a pack. Next time put it in a carrier and get in your car and drive it all the way to your friends house immediately. These people don’t care for the bunny.

Well the rabbit is gone, I tried to rescue it once and a week went by and it was raining out bad. I saw it outside one last time and after a few days it dissapeard. I think it got ate by a fox. I saw some wild animal outside my house and I am sure it got ate up. Those people put a sign up for it and came to my house asking me if I have it and it has been missing for 3 days, and I told the lady I do not have her rabbit and that it probably more then likely got ate up by some animal, very sad to see this happen but what did she expect to happen when you let it run around outside.
